They did that with the Pitt River Bridge approaches too.

Absolute worst time to do a closure. Traffic has been a total gongshow.

Also, there is way too much growth and our roads cannot handle the influx of new vehicles and crappy drivers.

Decisions from the 1970s to push growth to the other side of the Fraser are coming back to bite us. Rents are going down, move to the side of the Fraser you work on

SB on-ramp from Royal Ave

This is not a finial layer of pavement; however it seems that entire north approach is leveled and crews were busy last night. They should do move paving today, since weather permits.

Four lanes opening on stal̕əw̓asəm (Riverview) Bridge and permanent closure of the Pattullo Bridge

February 13, 2026

At approximately 7 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, all four lanes will open on the stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge, and the Pattullo Bridge will permanently close for deconstruction. Access to the stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge will be available via McBride Boulevard and the new Royal Avenue on-ramp in New Westminster, and King George Boulevard in Surrey.

Work will continue on the multi-use path connections to the bridge. Access for pedestrians and cyclists will not be available on the bridge until the multi-use path on the east side of the stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge opens this spring. For more information about pedestrian and cyclist access, including a temporary shuttle service for cyclists, please visit: pattullobridgereplacement.ca/active-transportation.

You’re welcome!

Initially, they said that one lane would remain open on the old bridge. Now, all four lanes are open on the new one. Hopefully, this will help accelerate the demolition of the old bridge and allow the on- and off-ramps on the new bridge to be completed sooner.

Is the speed limit for the new bridge going to be the same as the old one or is it just because it's still a construction zone?

Also, there's still the same chokepoints on the bridge approaches. McBride is still only one lane to the bridge, 2 lanes merging down to 1.King George and Scott Road both lose one lane. Essentially 4 lanes merging down to 2.

At least the trucks won't take up both lanes as before. The bridge should flow fine but I still see there being the usual traffic back ups on the bridge approaches in the morning and afternoon commutes.

According to a foreman yes that's the actual permanent speed limit - they said "it's because the bridge is going right into the city centre of new west so they didn't want high speeds"

Makes sense for the reasoning even though you could safely drive 60 on the bridge with how it's designed.

What I see usually on the bridges that I drive frequently is the average traffic flow when not congested is usually 10 over the limit on them. Making it 50 is fine then because if it was 60 then a lot of drivers would be going 70 and that's a little too fast for going into New West.

It’s the same speed limit as the old bridge? That’s pretty dumb
