According to the news, this location relocated to Bee Caves Rd. so they could have more space and open a music school as well.

Strait Music owned that land and when they moved in 2023 to their current location on Bee Caves Road, they sold the land to an LLC associated with CWS Properties.

Quote:
The buyer of the site was an LLC tied to CSW Development, an Austin-based developer of office, multifamily and retail projects. Plans for the site have not been revealed.

Back in 2021, there was a post here about CWS planning to build a 320 unit Class A 5-Story multi-family wrap project on the land adjacent to where Strait Music was.

An image of the land purchased in 2021 was in this post

So maybe it has something to do with that project.

Yes, it's a five-story apartment building. The site plan was filed in 2020, and the developer informed me on X that they had difficulty getting City approval to build on the site which caused the delay. The site drains into two watersheds leading to environmental concerns from the city.

Offs, the city worried about drainage when a massive parking lot exists on the site's north & east bounds.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense - especially since over 300 Apts. are replacing a parking lot and one building. When the site was developed in the 70s apparently there were no environmental concerns about runoff. But now there is.

Might suggest reading up on the entire Environmental Movement of the '70s and specifically the local Save our Springs ordinances from 1990.

The city can't even keep the greenbelts free of insane levels of trash and refuse from homeless encampments. This development should be the least of their worries, along with the SOS group if they're worried about runoff and the like.

Is the Seamless Capital project moving ahead? While I don't love all the parking, the density and height in that location is pretty excellent.

I support these projects, but it does suck to have these types of buildings disappear. This building has some character. Lamar is going to be endless 5 over 1s with no personality.

Well put! While I don’t mind the reduction in abandoned store fronts and auto-repair shops, I do mind reductions in fun things. Whatever goes here has pretty big South Lamarian culture shoes to fill!

The ATX does mention there being a ground floor restaurant, so hopefully Gibson is in talks with the developer to fill the space. I feel like it's been a pretty successful bar, so I'd be surprised if the owners weren't at least planning to bid for the lease to remain in the neighborhood.

However, I could see it being likely Gibson just moves elsewhere to avoid being closed for years while the space is under construction. I feel like there were Rainey bars that did something similar, but I forget who and what they did in the interim while their new bars were constructed. Did that happen or did I make that up?

I love how Gibson Street Bar always has festive things to do, especially for Halloween and Christmas. It will be dearly missed if they move forward. But hopefully, they do have a deal with the developer in the future but it won't be the same
