Taichung's landscape spans from the high mountains to the coast, with its highest peak, Snow Mountain (Xueshan / 3,884m), overlooking a city center nestled in a central basin. As Taiwan's second-largest city by population, Taichung is a commercial powerhouse—home to the world's most profitable Costco and the highest-grossing department store in Taiwan.
The urban core radiates from the Central District and Taichung Railway Station. Cutting through the heart of the city, Taiwan Boulevard serves as the busiest commercial artery, linking the station to City Hall, the Science Museum, major hospitals, and several universities. This thoroughfare is set to host the city’s future tallest skyscraper and its second metro line. Wenxin Road functions as a vital semi-circular corridor, carrying the city’s first metro line amidst expansive parks, emerging districts, and major hypermarkets.
The 7th Redevelopment Zone acts as the new administrative center, housing the City Hall, City Council, and the National Taichung Theater. It boasts the highest density of high-rises in Taiwan, with over 80 skyscrapers exceeding 100 meters concentrated in this district, which also serves as Central Taiwan’s premier shopping hub. The Shuinan Economic and Trade Park—transformed from the former Shuinan Airport—has become Taichung’s most anticipated development. This district features a transit hub, an international exhibition center, and the "Green Museumbrary" (a combined library and art museum). With a future domed stadium and a landmark tower in the works, Shuinan is poised to become the city’s next major skyline, second only to the 7th Redevelopment Zone.
