Hamtramck is a small independent enclave of 2.1 square miles almost completely surrounded by the city of Detroit except for a small part bordering Highland Park, another small enclave nearly entirely surrounded by Deroit.
Hamtramck is Michigan's most dense, and most diverse city with 26 different languages spoked amongst the school-aged children of the city. The largest ethnic groups included Poles, Bangledeshis, and African-Americans. The motto of the city points to the diversity of the city: "A League of Nations"
