Yichang, a prefecture level city in Hubei Province, was formerly known as "Yiling". Known as the "Gateway to the Three Gorges" and the "Throat of Sichuan and Hubei". In the 13th year of the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1735), Yilingzhou was promoted to Yichang Prefecture. On March 21, 1995, the State Council approved the establishment of Xiaoting District in Yichang City. On March 22, 2001, the State Council approved the revocation of Yichang County and the establishment of Yiling District. Yichang has tourist attractions such as the Three Gorges Waterfall, Yichang Museum, Yichang Underwater World, and the Three Gorges Longquan Lake Scenic Area.
