Your top five skylines of the south

• Miami-Everchanging and hardly worth overlooking
• Atlanta-The same could be said for this skyline that was said for Miami
• Charlotte-Newness and changing
• Nashville-A mix of old and new, but getting more density and a new tower
• Birmingham-Classic skyline that retains its older structures

Honarable Mention: Louisville- a fast growing exciting skyline. Could very easily be a top five in my book easily!!!!!

Lexy, you mean Southeast, right? Because if it's just the South, then locations like Dallas, Houston, New Orleans can be added.

Here's my Southeast choices:

I'm more into the mid-sized cities that get overlooked.....That's why I'm so dedicated to NC....But for the sake of being fair, here's my choice:

Outside of NC:
Richmond VA
Norfolk VA
Atlanta GA
Savannah GA
Jacksonville Fla

1. Atlanta - no contest but still too many gaps.

2. Maimi - I don't care for the individual buildings but the density is there and the ocean provides a great backdrop

3. Charlotte - Reminds me of Cleveland's skyline for some reason. A couple of really nice towers but the spacing is off. However, a few mid size towers and it could rival Minneapolis.

4. Louisville - looks weak from certain angles but from the North and especially Northeast it is a near perfect skyline.

5. Nashville - Batman rules and the desity is good but it needs more variation in height.


honorable mention - Tampa - Nice location and buildings but looks a little too shiny and new for me. I've always prefered a little grit in my cities

1) Houston - It is just huge and it has a nice mix of old and new.
2) Miami - Beats Dallas because it is colorful but not too flashy
3) Dallas - Fountain tower is all I have to say
4) Atlanta - See above
5) New Orleans - Love the old opulent buildings. Individual buildings up close blow the other cities away. The late 19th and early 20th century buildings are some of the best in the nation.

1. Miami - The NYC of the south baby!
2. Atlanta - Never been, but with that many towers, you can't ignore it.
3. Tampa - Not as tall as Charlotte, but I still love it.
4. Charlotte - Very beautiful skyline...but still too cold up there!
5. Ft. Lauderdale - Surprising...and I guess there is something about a tower surrounded by palm trees.

I agree with Sleepy, most people in Louisiana believe they are in the Southeast not South central. Many formers representing the Louisiana area have moved over to the South central forum because it receives more attention over there than in this sub forum.

Hell, all of downtown Tampa doesn't even exceed just midtown Atlanta. Not knocking Tampa, just amazed that pieces of Atlanta exceed most southern cities downtowns.

honorable mentions to birmingham and nashville.

Thrash, a skyline is all about aesthetics, not size. The only flaw with Atlanta is that it's hard to capture the whole darn thing without revealing enormous, and I mean ENORMOUS gaps. That's a case in which size actually hurts the city's skyline value, IMO. But Atlanta still has enough trophy skyscrapers to take #1 in the Southeast, if you ask me.

Also keep in mind Thrash, that Tampa has several other skylines. Downtown is the tallest and most dense, but there are a cluster of towers along Bay Shore Blvd. A second downtown in Westshore, and a cluster of towers in Rocky Point. I would have loved to see all those buildings in the CBD, but that's the way things happen when you have lots of water surrounding your city. Everyone wants a darn view!!!

I ranked Miami higher than Atlanta for two reasons...
1. I've never been to Atlanta.
2. Miami and SoBe are so much more dense than I had remembered.

How impressive or breathtaking a skyline is surely factors in. When your're driving south on 85 coming into the Atlanta CBD it just seems to go on forever, its awesome. Spread out, but totally awesome.
