The new gas generating station for the expansion will be by far the largest generating plant in Saskatchewan. It is not clear where it will be situated. It has t be wither near the data centre or along the high voltage lines between Regina and Estevan. AI says such a plant is likely to $10 billion on its own.

Bell Canada is expanding its plans to build an AI data centre outside of Regina, announcing it will establish the company’s new Bell AI Fabric Headquarters in Saskatchewan.

The move is expected to bring more than $50 billion in capital investment.

The province called it the single-largest private sector capital investment in Canada’s history.

This is huge when you have the Prime Minister there and two ex Prime Minister‘s it’s the largest investment in Canadian history. Unbelievable. It’ll change Regina forever.

A win for Canada’: Carney

The project is set to create 500 permanent jobs through data centre operations and power generation. An additional 3,000 jobs in areas like security, logistics and maintenance are expected, according to the province.

Bell AI Fabric headquarters, which will be housed at the facility, will host around 100 management positions.

“This is a win for Saskatchewan. It’s a win for Canada and for all Canadians,” Carney said during the announcement. “I’m not going to repeat the facts and figures. I will just note that this is the largest capital investment in Saskatchewan’s history, and there’s been a lot of big investments in Saskatchewan.”

In his remarks, Premier Scott Moe classified the investment as a necessity for Canada’s sovereignty.

“Throughout our history, we have built to secure our sovereignty, to shape our destiny, and to determine our own future,” he said, referencing projects like the Canadian Pacific Railway. “Today, the infrastructure has changed. But the purpose has not.”

The expansion will see the headquarters for Bell AI Fabric established in the Regina area and create thousands of jobs, according to a statement from the province, “while positioning Saskatchewan as a national leader in artificial intelligence, data sovereignty and secure, reliable energy.”

“This is going to be our anchor campus and we’re going to use Saskatchewan as our hub for our national ecosystem,” Bibic explained.

The original project was set to create about 80 permanent full-time jobs once the project was completed. Bell said the expansion would bring that up to 500 permanent jobs, between data centre operations and power generation, with another 3,000 more in security, logistics and maintenance.

With the hub being the headquarters for Bell AI Fabric, about 100 management positions would also be created, the province estimated.

Bell AI Fabric Expansion Could Bring $50B+ Investment to Regina Area

Bell Canada is expanding its Regina-area Bell AI Fabric data-centre project fourfold, taking the planned capacity from the initial 300 megawatts to as much as 1.2 gigawatts.

The expansion is backed by a projected capital investment of more than $50 billion, with the Saskatchewan government citing up to $52.5 billion.

Prime Minister Mark Carney, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe and Bell CEO Mirko Bibic announced the expansion Monday at the Canada Investment Summit in Toronto.

The project, located in the R.M. of Sherwood near Regina, is also expected to become the new national headquarters for Bell AI Fabric.
Bell says the full project could support:

800–1,200 construction and technical jobs
Up to 600 permanent operations positions
About 100 head-office positions
More than 3,000 indirect community and maintenance jobs

The initial 300-MW phase will connect to the SaskPower grid. Under Saskatchewan's Data Centre Framework, the additional 900 MW would require Bell to develop its own power generation rather than placing additional demand on the provincial grid.

Bell also says the facility will use a closed-loop cooling system designed to reduce reliance on local water resources.

The project is being presented as part of Canada's broader data-sovereignty strategy, with Canadian data, research and AI intellectual property intended to remain within Canada.

Good morning,! I’m doing great—and this announcement is absolutely enormous for Regina and Saskatchewan. It is not just another development; it could reshape the province’s economy and reputation.

* More than $50 billion: The Saskatchewan government identifies about $52 billion in total capital investment—larger than the $40-billion LNG Canada project previously described as Canada’s largest private-sector investment.
* Four times the original size: The Regina-area facility is expanding from 300 megawatts to as much as 1.2 gigawatts.
* Extraordinary power demand: At full size, 1.2 GW equals roughly 31% of SaskPower’s current record provincial peak demand. Bell plans to generate the additional 900 MW itself using natural gas.

My honest assessment: this is a once-in-a-generation announcement for Saskatchewan if Bell constructs the entire 1.2-GW campus and the projected investment actually materializes. It could place Regina on the international technology map and create work far beyond the data centre itself—construction, trades, natural-gas supply, transportation, security and local services.

The important caution is that “up to 1.2 GW” and “estimated capital investment” describe the planned full buildout, not $52 billion arriving immediately. The natural-gas power generation, emissions, infrastructure demands and relatively modest number of permanent jobs compared with the huge investment will also receive close scrutiny.

At approximately $52 billion, Saskatchewan calls it the largest single private-sector capital investment in Canadian history. For comparison, the $40-billion LNG Canada development previously held that distinction. Government of Saskatchewan⁠

The careful wording is important: it is an estimated, multi-year expansion of up to 1.2 gigawatts, so the complete $52 billion will materialize only if every planned phase is constructed. Some enormous government-led projects can cost more, but among individual Canadian private-sector developments, this announcement is right at the very top—and potentially number one. It is truly historic for Regina and Saskatchewan.

I am very curious as to where the combined cycle gas turbine generating station will be located. These things are actually quite compact. See the 900MW Cascade Generating Station in Alberta. There are definitely some really big fans, which means they do not need to use surface water for cooling.

You may be right it could’ve been an Alberta who knows
But I’m more curious about the headquarters where they’re gonna put them downtown now that could be interesting

With the initial data centre announcement, Bell said they had the rights to buy 320 more acres. There is about a 1000 acre block of land surrounding them bordered by existing gravel roads and the bypass to the south all owned by the same person they would have had a deal with previously if they needed to expand. So without any real knowledge, I would assume Bell bought it all. Saskpower themselves have explored the idea of a generation station near their recent switching station SE of the project. So Bell could look at the something in that area if they don’t build close to the existing site. If Bell does buy the entire 1000 acre block of land, Transgas owns land right beside to the SE inside the bypass to build a facility to provide them with natural gas if they have to.

They more than likely bought the whole thousand acres before the announcement. I’m sure soon we’ll get more information and who knows what else is gonna be planned out there cause this is huge.
