NHL 2026-27 Seasob

Guess nobody else wanted to do it, so I will again. Calendar flipped, it's officially a new NHL year.

So, this Flyers offersheet to Leo Carlsson is interesting. The Ducks have to match, first rounders from the Flyers over the next 4 years isn't going to mean much. Only question is why didn't Briere make it a max offer and really tie Anaheim's hands? As it is, Anaheim is going to have issues with cap space with other players now saying "Maybe I was 10 million when Carlsson was 15 million, but now he's 18, where am I at?"

I just wish it was still Brian Burke on the receiving end of this lol.

There's been a lot of changes to the Leafs lineup, and with the first pick Gavin McKenna, I'm really hoping we see a rejuvenated team that can play well as a unit. I'm weary however, given how much drama was caused by the management and ownership in the last year...

Rogers valuing MLSE at almost $18billion in purchasing the remaining 25% they don't own, from Larry Tanenbaum for $4.35 Billion. They will also announce a minority sale of the combined sports and media entity at a later date. In 2025 Rogers paid $4.7 Billion for Bell's 37.5% stake (which Bell paid $533 million for in 2012).

Macklin Celebrini beats Leo Carlsson and becomes the highest paid player in the league at 18.8M AAV. The amount is not the problem, Celebrini deserves it but the term is bad. 5 years which buys only 1 year of UFA.

Kent Hughes hit the jackpot signing Demidov before Carlsson's OS. 9.1M AAV with 3 UFA years bought.

The Habs now find themselves in the best situation cap wise. No player over 10M and have 4 more years until first contract of a core player expires (Suzuki).

Montreal has an insanely good situation cap wise, a combination of skill and luck it seems, other teams have not been so lucky...or skilled at the GM position.

Betting on himself with the 5 years and a rising cap.

He basically signed a really long bridge deal (typically they are 3 year), but he will probably get $25M-ish when he re-signs. Smart move by him, cash in now and bigger later, and see if the Sharks can become competitive within that timeframe.

Go Flames!
Fully expecting them to finish near the bottom again in 2026-27 but that’s ok - stick with the plan.
Last season in the Saddledome.

I’ll likely have to cheer for my second team this season - Go Sabres !

Flames are in for a long season, but all the young guys are going to get a lot of playing time, so we should have an idea of the direction of the team after this season. Hopefully the rebild doesn't have to stretch out for another 4 or 5 years.

Also it's crazy to think that this is the last season in the Saddledome, such an iconic structure and I've had so many great nights in there. Stoked for the new building though, hopefully they have learned a lot of lessons from the Dome and some of the other new buildings. Best part is there will be a couple bars as part of the development, so the pregame options should be far superior!

Landon Dupont looks like he may be the #1 pick next summer, how crazy would it be for the Flames to take a Calgary kid at #1.
