BEA.GOV: 50 States by Q1 2026 GDP, TX surpasses $3T and Ohio, $1T

This was released today, June 25, 2026

Kudos to TX and OH for the major milestones, by the end of next year, I project GA, NC and WA will all surpass or be very close to $1T, but this is pure speculation as the economy can turn rather quickly, but we'll see. EDIT: Also, FL I am almost 100% certain will surpass $2T by the end of next year.

Also, 20 states now have GDPs at $500B or greater, we are literally working ourselves to the bone.

DC's job market being in a free fall, yet still posting positive GDP growth is a bit surprising and shows how disconnected the measure of GDP has become to every day life and main street America

Virginia looks terrible... But Iowa and Nebraska look even worse. No wonder everyone's in a bad mood right now.

True, and there is probably a trailing factor to GDP and job losses. People don't immediately stop living their lives necessarily. The farm state's probably took the brunt of Trump's trade war due to being somewhat dependent on exports.

And now there's yet another scam brewing that is only being pushed in a half-assed attempt to stitch some domestic political wounds with farmers.

Just an amazing amount of bullshit that will never fully come to fruition, much less benefit large numbers of American farmers.

American famers want stable to relatively stable markets for their products, not government handouts... and certainly not make-believe government handouts.

Trump works to woo farmers in aftermath of Iran war

President Trump's proposal to have Iran use their unfrozen funds to buy American agriculture products says a lot about where he's worried about lost political support.

This week, Vice President JD Vance introduced a new possibility in the Iran negotiations - a plan to help farmers that he said was conceptualized by Jared Kushner.

JD VANCE: Fundamentally, what Jared and the Qataris and the entire team here in Burgenstock accomplished is, to me, a classic Trump deal where if Iranian assets are ever unfrozen, they're going to go to make American farmers richer and to feed the Iranian people.

It's coming, fast.

Did a quick projection based on a range of growth rates...

---------Annualized Growth Rate--
Year----+3%-----+5%------+7%---
2026--$4.402T--$4.402T--$4.402T--Baseline
2027--$4.534T--$4.622T--$4,710T
2028--$4T670T--$4.853T--$5.039T
2029--$4.810T--$5.095T
2030--$4,954T
2031--$5.103T

At this point, I would say sometime between Q3 2028 and Q1 2029, but we'll see.

To whatever extent a state's GPD is an accurate/inaccurate comparison, Germany is the current #3 in the world at $5.45. So it's conceivable that California could rank as the #3 economy in the world:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal)

As for DC - its borders are more arbitrary than a metro area comparison (and DC of course merges into Baltimore), and so among the most useless data points.

Other trouble exists where major cities sprawl across state lines or rivers into bordering states.
