Closest Walmarts to City Halls Around the World

Well, Walmart doesnt operate everywhere, but this came about during a discussion I had at the airport when I overheard these 2 people sitting next to me talking about how the Walmart in Mexico is better then here, so I did some digging and found how close the nearest Walmart(preferable Supercenters) to the respective city halls of major cities around the world. For the US, I did the 50 largest cities by population.

a few notes:
1. Walmart is is called 'Lider' in Chile, but it has the exact same branding, logo etc.

2. There is no actual number for the address of the Walmart in Johannesburg, it's inside a mall and the mall only goes by it's street corner(pretentious?)

3. The Walmart closest to Oakland is also the closest to San Francisco. The closest Walmart to SF without having to cross a bridge is in Mountain View, 48 miles south.

Not that it matters a great deal, but the "as the crow flies" distance from Chicago's City Hall, to the nearest Walmart at 4650 W North Ave is actually 6.0 miles, not 5.0.

I thought this was a funny topic for a thread.

As a Target shopper myself, I wouldn't think to go to a Walmart. And I say this because it's more out of convenience; within a 3-mile radius from where we live, there are 2 Targets, whereas the closest Walmart to us is 8 miles away, and the next closest Walmart is 11 miles away. I wouldn't drive that far just to go to Walmart. I know of plenty other Target locations than I do Walmart locations.

So this made me curious, and I looked it up. According to Google AI, California is the only US state where there are more Targets than Walmarts (320 Targets vs. 270-280 Walmarts). Every other US state has more Walmarts than Targets.

Also according to Google AI, Texas, the 2nd most populous US state, has the most Walmarts, at around 600, and only around 100 Targets.

Incidentally, if it were 2015, the closest Walmart to Los Angeles City Hall would've been the Chinatown location, a distance of only 0.8 miles. That location didn't last long, only having been in business from September 2013 and closing in January of 2016. It was a smaller format Walmart, one of those "Walmart Neighborhood Markets." It was very controversial when it opened, too. Many said it would put Chinatown mom-and-pop stores out of business. Ironically enough, it didn't last long.

Interesting. In Cleveland its the Walmart in Steelyard Commons - 3 miles as the crow flies, or a 5 mile drive. Hands down the worst Walmart in the metro. Crazy thing is the Target literally across the street is probably the nicest, neatest, and cleanest I've ever been to.

The closest Walmart to Buffalo City Hall is actually in another country - 3.5 miles away on Garrison Road in Fort Erie Ontario.

The closest in the US is near the Walden Galleria, 7.1 miles.

Correct, calzada means road, and doesn't mean pedestrian-only.

You are right, I only said that because Calçadão(technically meaning big sidewalk) in Brazil usually refers to a street that is a pedestrian street that has like seating and lights and people selling things in the middle of the 'street'---this is one of the time where I incorrectly attribute a Portuguese word to Spanish. I will remove that from the OP, thanks!

I stand corrected, is there a word for that in Spanish? As I said to sopas_ej, the word in Brazil is Calçadão is what people call them.

Yeah from City Hall, the Geary Target isnt that far either and is infinitely more convenient for driving then the Metreon on Mission.
