Glad to see expansion finally being proposed for Seymour, hopefully Grouse follows suit. Our population has grown massively and that has come with high volumes at the Ski resorts nearby, this is overdue

I guess getting up higher is their best option for ski runs with the weather.

Risky move given how variable the ski conditions are at the locals these days. Must be planning to capture a lot of summer revenue, maybe mountain biking etc...

The real risk is staffing levels. With how variable our climate is getting, we can have great ski days in April, but sometimes local resorts are already closed when that happens. Increasing summer revenue is key to keeping a large cohort of year round staff that can be there when things are good, and the summer revenue de-risks from a bad winter.

For sure a big part of this is to bring in summer revenue.

I think their original lease is also up in 2034 so I guess they need to make some case to renew it.

Am I reading the maps correctly that there will be a gain of about 100m at the peak?

Yes, it looks to be about 120m higher. The bottom terminal of the DePencier Chair looks to be a little higher than the parking lot.

The gondola in phase 4 should really be in phase 1.

They need the cash flow to fund it from phase 1-3 projects.

Good point. It would be nice to see the Province help fund this. It would relieve traffic and help improve access to the park.

Not enough people are talking about the proposed gondola!

(Funny how the image calls the body of water the "Straight of Georgia". Somehow wrong in more than one way.)

Would be cool if the Province would fund the SFU Gondola too, but that still hasn't happened.

In a true fantasy world, it would be great if Canada could establish a domestic gondola / ski lift manufacturing capacity. We already have domestic know-how for maintaining them, but whenever they break down ski resorts (or transit agencies of the future) need to source parts from Europe or Asia.

Gondola would be sweet, so nice to get up there just on public transit!

I mean it's so niche so it probably doesn't make any sense for someone to start a new gondola company. All the major gondolas in BC have parts warehoused in Kelowna.

Doppelmayr just doubled their space in Quebec adding 185,000 sq feet of production/office space. Cabin/chairs, steel ropes and other components are from Europe.

Mount Seymour eyes major expansion with new attractions, pending B.C. Parks approval
Eddie Wood, whose family has owned and operated the Vancouver resort since 1984, said the changes are aimed at improving the business's long-term viability.

A suspension bridge, a skywalk attraction and a gondola could rise above Mount Seymour under a sweeping redevelopment proposal that would transform the North Vancouver ski resort into a four-season destination.

The long-term vision, released this month as a draft redevelopment plan, would expand its controlled recreation area, mostly within Mount Seymour Provincial Park, by nearly 100 hectares and boost peak visitor capacity from about 2,660 to nearly 6,000 people a day.
