We went to San Diego and Orange County for our kids' spring break this past week. It was my first time in Southern California in over a decade. California (wrongly) gets is share of criticism but San Diego appeared to be booming and it looks like a lot of new housing is being built in Orange County.
We flew into San Diego and stayed there for three days and then took Amtrak to Irvine, where we took day trips to Disneyland and the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach (this is one of Southern California's best attractions that doesn't receive the attention it should).
We visited the zoo our first full day in San Diego.
We went to breakfast at Hash House A Go-Go in Hilcrest. We ate there on our previous visit to San Diego. The arteries got blasted!
We visited the La Jolla tidepools after brunch.
We went to the Padres - Giants game that evening. I think Petco Park, along with PNC Park, are two of the most beautiful stadiums.
We took the Surfliner to Irvine on Tuesday and enjoyed the local cuisine for dinner.
We went to the Aquarium of the Pacific on Thursday. Long Beach really seems like one of Southern California's best communities.
We met up with a friend of mine from elementary school at Ballast Point in the evening. We saw a pod of dolphin in the middle of Alamitos Bay when we were enjoying our beers.

I clicked on this vid earlier today, more out of vague curiosity than direct intention. At first I didn't know the vloggers were europeans...comments from outsiders about any place may be more objective than from insiders who are jaded or burnt out. But vacationers also aren't having to deal with the grind of work schedules or household chores. so their POV may be both more positive & negative than insiders have.
It is beyond rude to post some random YouTube video in somebody else's photo thread, citywatch.
Anyway--Cool pics, 202 Cyclist. Ballast Point in Long Beach is one of my favorite brew-pubs anywhere in SoCal. Also, I had brunch at the Hash House a Go-Go in Las Vegas and each dish was like three dishes. Looks like they do that at their SD branch, too!

Nice pics! And yes, I've always loved Long Beach. Very underrated city that nobody seems to talk a lot about, but I kinda like it that way. I don't want it to be "discovered" and become like another Culver City or something.

Why? A lack of replies to any post can be described as rude. I recall a poster complaining that info about a location (Expo park) wasn't close enough to dtla & shouldn't be inserted into the dt thread....which is why combining all LA devlpt info into one thread makes sense. Even more so since dt is less active than before & other sections of LA are as important in their own way.
Not doing more than just a quick reply to a thread can be described as rude too....I always appreciate posts that are more than just a short comment.
Letting a thread die out can be described as rude too.
I appreciated 202_cyclist making me think of Orange County in the LA compilations page just as I appreciate his making me think of SD in this page.
Nice, San Diego for a long time was not a city I had much affection for, but as I've gotten older I appreciate the laid back/relax feeling of the city. Not that I never thought it wasn't beautiful, but it was just a little to chill for me back in my 20's. With that said, it's an amazing city to visit and there is plenty of big city things to keep one busy, and also cool to enjoy with your children.
I like to add my 2 cents regarding Long Beach too. It is one beautiful and charming city; I lived there for almost 20 years. Although I'm close by since it's part of the LA area, I get down there to see friends and relatives. We moved away over 10 years ago, but we really miss it and would move back in a split second if the opportunity present itself. I don't think it's much of a secret as it used to be, and it's becoming very expensive to live there now.

I have to agree with all of this. These photo threads have always been meant to get people thinking about a city or place that perhaps they don't think about every day and spark some conversation about that place.
There is nothing wrong with inserting your own commentary or point of view. If somebody doesn't like it, they can just choose not to respond.
Just make sure to thank the person who took the time to post the photos - thank you 202_cyclist!
