City planning staff is recommending that Council not approve the zoning changes for this proposal.

https://london.ca/sites/default/files/20...-26029%20-%20PEC%20Report%20%28CC%29.pdf

According to the staff report, the biggest reason is that this proposed development is too intense for the area. Centre Street is classified as a "Neighbourhood Street", and the max. height for these streets in the "Neighbourhood Place Type" is 3 stories, as per The London Plan.

This goes to the planning committee on May 26th and then to full council on June 2nd.

Should be approved easily. Immediately behind it are equally sized buildings. Another example of the London Plan trying to micro manage land use rather then looking at the bigger picture on a macro scale and with an eye on the decades ahead.

Isn't one of the main principals to build up not out?

The planning committee (made up of 5 councillors) unanimously rejected this proposal. It will be up for a full council vote next week.

Lots of neighbourhood opposition for this one, as well.

Must be an election in a few months eh?

If full council rejects it will likely end up at the OLT.
