We took a quick trip to Providence this past weekend to watch the UVM - Providence hockey game. When it is 12 degrees out, the only things to do are drink beer and watch hockey. Providence is a great small or mid-size city and it is overshadowed by being so close to Boston and NYC. I think it is really underrated.
We stopped at Two Roads Brewing in Stratford, CT, for sustenance on our way.
Go Catamounts! Vermont's hockey team isn't too good this year. There were almost as many nuns in attendance at the game as Vermont fans. I found a puck under our seats when we got there, so that was a fun souvenir for our kids.
I figured I would immerse myself in the local culture of Little Rhody.
Sunday morning was about ten degrees and I had limited time to take photos with our kids.
Providence has some incredible restaurants. We ate brunch at Ellie's. I had a pork belly sandwich with broccoli rabe and provolone. We also all shared cinnamon buns.

Great pictures! I try to stop in Providence every time I go to Cape Cod. Providence reminds me of my city of Wilmington, overshadowed by the bigger cities on I-95 nearby.
Yep to echo everyone else's sentiments, Providence is great... criminally overshadowed/underrated... only spent a couple days there on my way to other places but fell in love with it immediately.
Btw, any Providence lovers should go watch the Netflix documentary about the people who lived in secret inside the Providence Place Mall.

My coworker is from Rhode Island and said the Netflix documentary is really good.

Providence is definitely spiritually Rust Belt and I felt right at home when I visited from Dayton last year. Rhode Island is now one of my favorite states.
I opened this again and realized that I went right past your first picture of Two Roads. I love craft breweries, and in addition to mom-and-pop ones, and pilgrimage ones, I actually also love going to the big craft breweries and seeing what they make that doesn't get canned. I am down at Dogfish Head 5-6 times a year, and their one-off and experimental beers are a lot better than the canned beers. I've had several beers now before they got canned, and many had different names in their R&D lives.

Do you remember which beers you had at Two Roads?
I think I had the Coast Rider IPA and my wife had a stout. Their IPAs are really good, as is the Roadsmary Baby pumpkin beer.
I want to visit Dogfish at some point. I agree with your assessment. The 90 Minute IPA is, of course great, but I have enjoyed some fantastic Dogfish experimental beers. We were at an event years ago where they served the Dogfish Ancient Ales.

You would like Dogfish Head. The Ancient Ales are great. Sometimes they brew just a keg of one that is otherwise retired.
I think you would really like their one-off beers. They just announced the Grateful Dead Citrus Daydream Lager this week. I had it back in November when it was called Drier Weather. In their winter variety pack, they had Czechresso, Kööölsch, and Mid 90s Microbrewery Red Ale. I had all three before they were canned. Czechpresso was called Czechpress Yourself, and Kööölsch was called Before It Was Köööl, in their R&D days. On tap right now at their Rehoboth Beach brewpub are Can I Krush It?, a NEIPA; Setlist Shuffle Vol. 1, an American IPA; No Time For Sippin!!!, an American IPA; Eddy and Maud, a kölsch; and Still Pale After Summer, a pale ale. The tasting room at the Milton brewing/canning factory has a different list of exclusive beers.
