If anyone wants to compile a list of our current proposals and under construction projects I can add them to the first post.

We are going to merge the two Los Angeles threads and make a single Los Angeles Megathread. The thread will be suitably renamed shortly.

At a time of declining participation on the forum, I guess it makes sense to degrade the experience like this. Who needs content when we can stare at a reduced, blank slate?

The residents and small business owners in Little Tokyo are sounding the alarm after a $2 billion project to build apartments and a so-called mega mall passed the planning department.

Some might argue the promise of a compound with apartments, shops, offices and restaurants is appealing and would bring jobs and needed housing to the area. But of 1,589 rental units… there are just 249 affordable units. And people say that is not nearly enough.

"Anything that’s going to affect our day-to-day traffic, air quality, noise quality, everything, it's just not going to be good for the community," said Little Tokyo resident Nancy Uyeda

The webmaster identified several large threads as significant causes of server slowdown. The database gets bogged down with tasks related to such huge threads.

We used to have a policy about starting an updated version of a thread when one got above 10,000 posts. You might notice that the previous thread was version 6.0 (and many others throughout the forum are on their Xth edition). That means this is not the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, or sixth time this thread has been restarted, nor will it be the last. The old threads are still accessible in the Archives.

That's easy for you to say, considering you personally repopulated the new San Francisco thread.

I can copy over the first post of the previous LA Rundown 6.0 thread if you like but the information is going to be very outdated, as it also is in the SF thread.

since the metro LA & dtla forums have been combined, this update about a previous major proj in dt....the 6th St bridge...is ridiculous:

https://youtu.be/m9TCcK8jhSU?si=G-Umr1x4et9XHVpX

Onni's Olympic & Hill apt tower has supposedly filled up rather well, which may be the last new commercial proj in dt for who knows how long. As with the 6th St bridge, the abandoned Oceanwide tower proj may remain in poor shape for quite awhile too.

Currently, the only devlpt underway in dtla is the addition to the broad museum & the colburn school's auditorium. dtla, however, may be helped when the subway finally goes further west under Wilshire Blvd....it's supposed to open around Feb or March.

But DTSF has been made more accessible for over 40 yrs by BART, but dtsf isn't doing too well either. So nothing is certain.

Some of the OG forumers from the 2000s/2010s era of the LA threads ( the wild wild west of crazy times), we got together and made a social group outside of the forum to do regular hangouts. There are 365 days in a year. You have over 10k posts in just 6 years which means you're averaging around 5 posts a day, that's wildly more than most of us who have been here twice as long and even longer. That's a lot of work. Maybe this new thread is a sign that you should log out for a bit and actually go outside. DM Scania since you guys seem to agree on everything and meet up in person perhaps for a coffee and exploration day like us OGs did.

I was formerly known as fflint, and I lived in LA when I joined SSP in 1998 or 1999 (I can't remember anymore). I moved to SF and was active in the SF thread for the 20 years I lived there before returning here. We had numerous meet-ups there, and I'm still good friends with several ex-forumers. I was an SSP moderator and then an administrator for many, many years. So I will continue to remain logged in, thank you very much.

It's not a matter of declining participation as it is a matter of declining projects. LA simply doesn't have as much construction as it once did, and even if/when we come back, I don't think it's necessary to be the only city with two separate threads. And besides, now we don't have to argue about if a project should be discussed in the downtown thread or the metro thread!

+1 that one thread is sufficient for the whole metro.

Are any of the current projects moving forward btw?

I liked helping keep the dtla thread alive, but fewer & fewer things to post about.

I continue to think that Expo park is as much dt related as areas a few blocks north of the 10 fwy are, but others disagree. So the dtla thread became even more lifeless.

In the next yr, Expo park may be one of the few good things that affect dtla. Also, the opening of the D Line under Wilshire Blvd in the next several wks may help dt seem less remote from a part of the westside & visa versa. however, it won't really be as helpful until it goes all the way to Westwood.

A prominent tower in downtown Los Angeles has sold after the owner defaulted on the building's loan, underscoring the distress still weighing on one of the nation’s largest office markets.

The 601West Cos., a New York City investment firm, has acquired the distressed mortgage on Wells Fargo Center North Tower from Brookfield Properties for an undisclosed price, according to people familiar with the deal.

Brookfield acquired the 55-story property as part of a four-property portfolio deal in 2013 for $1.9 billion.

The downtown building is almost fully leased to Wells Fargo, development firm Related California and architecture firm Skidmore Owings & Merrill. But one of the building's top tenants, Oaktree Capital Management, announced plans this summer to vacate its 214,600-square-foot space in the building for another downtown office tower.

That would be good, the only 100+ meter high-rises I know off the top of my head are:

U/C (supposedly):

One Beverly

Proposed:

1045 South Olive (810 feet)
BLOC (710 feet)
Mack (600 feet)
Mitsui (600 feet)
I think there was another 600 footer recently proposed downtown.

To my knowledge none of these have much of a chance of happening though.

That is quite the trophy tower. A firm I worked with always kept a couple of offices there. I only worked in there twice, as I was working out of SF, but I can say that the building has always been very nice and well-kept.

It might be slow as far as construction but with the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, the people mover at LAX, I presume the Endeavor's new home and perhaps the Colburn extension will be complete so there will be a lot of big openings in 2026. I don't know where it would fit but it seems like Exposition Park could use another hotel with everything going on there.

There is allegedly a high rise medical office building that should start construction at San Vicente and Wilshire. Beyond that, there are a smattering of high rises down Wilshire, in Hollywood, and all the Builder's Remedy projects in Beverly Hills and Santa Monica.

Are they higher than 100 meters? Is there a thread for any of these projects?
