Buildings You'd Move from One City to Another

Everyone has a skyscraper located in one city that they wish was located on their home city's skyline. I'm curious what buildings people would move in order to improve their city or to make an out-of-place skyscraper feel at home in a more appropriate city!

For mine, I'd have to move the NCR Headquarters building from Atlanta back to NCR's original home city of Dayton. At 350 feet it doesn't make a huge impression on Midtown Atlanta's skyline, but it would be a stunner on Dayton's mid-sized skyline.

I would move all of the Southfield Town Center towers except the Westin down the road to downtown Detroit where they should have been built.

I’ve always thought Cincinnati’s skyline would look super badass with Cleveland’s Terminal Tower added. Though it’s such a beautiful and unique tower, I think it’d improve basically any city’s skyline.

The Southfield towers are pretty ugly and basically useless office space today. The way things have played out, it's honestly for the best they weren't built downtown.

I would steal the Carbide & Carbon building. Today it is nearly completely buried in Chicago with no good sight lines. Would look amazing in downtown Detroit.

I would move NYC's 53W53 to Seattle ('Moma tower'). It's such a dark, brooding skyscraper that is kind of drowned out by midtown. The angular, jagged silhouette and trusses mirror the Cascades and Olympic mountains ranges. The lower profile of Seattle would give it more of a deserved, leading role in the skyline.

I'd take the Ping An Finance Center from Shenzhen and put it where Salesforce Tower is in Chicago. It's a beautifully modern building with that relies on structural expressionism akin to the Hancock.

I think it'd help add another big peak and help even out our skyline from many angles. Salesforce Tower is almost halfway between Trump and Sears Towers:

I'd take Helmut Jahn's 418' tall Oak Brook Terrace Tower from said suburb and move it ~19 miles NE up to downtown Evanston because:

A. Evanston could really use a nice peak like this for its mini-skyline
B. Evanston rightfully should be home to suburban Chicago's tallest tower
C. Oak Brook Terrace is a very "geography of nowhere" kinda place that has no skyline outside of its lone tower

TBH I'd take this gigantic block of normal Parisian apartments, plop it somewhere like Woodley Park, and instantly transform an entire DC neighborhood from single-family houses to real city:

But if that's a bit too far outside the spirit of the thread and I have to stick with a skyscraper, I'd take Bryant Park's American Radiator Building and put it in Silver Spring, Maryland, which would give the DC area a landmark skyscraper, be super visible from a lot of different places, psychologically legitimize Silver Spring, and change the discussion about skyscrapers in the DC area.

I'd take pretty much anything supertall to lessen the sin of squandering Wolf Point with the okayish boredom that got built on it.

I'd move the Tokyo Skytree and place it in the middle of the Watts neighborhood in Los Angeles, CA.

Would make for an EPIC observation deck and comm tower.

The American Radiator Building reminds me of Houston's Gulf Building. Somewhat similar architecture but different coloring of the facade.

I have always loved Fountain Place and would move it to downtown LA just so I could see it a couple of times a week:



I also really like Via 57 West, and I would move it to the front of Ocean Avenue, high on the bluff above the Pacific Ocean in downtown Santa Monica:

I've always been really fond of Republic Bank Center (or whatever it's called now) in Houston but always thought it's Dutch gothic inspired architecture looks really out of place in Houston. It would be a much better fit in NYC or Phila.

Its actually quite impressive how massive Via 57th is. 460ft tall. Plop it in any American city not named Chicago and it'd be an instant icon. But its the cornerstone of 57th street which has Central Park Tower so it dosent look tall at all.
