Western University - Engineering Building (Under Construction)

Work on the foundation for the new Engineering Building to the south of Alumni Hall is underway with caisson drilling rig now onsite and today a large concrete pump truck and parade of cement trucks. Still no renders yet but there is a major slope to the east of Alumni Hall and the old parking lot where this is being built. Will be interesting to see the renders and how they intent to use the slope in the design.

Norlon Builders appears to be the general contractor for this project with their signage up on the construction fencing.

They have made progress with some of the posts now poured and foundation footings. From the east side where the parking lot is this would be ground floor posts. From the west side at the Alumni Hall level this might be L3 level. Still no renders of what this will look like.

Have made progress forming and pouring the ground floor walls and posts. Forming now for the 2nd floor slab on the south end. Again due to the position of this new building against the slope this might be considered the L1 floor slab.

First renders of the new Engineering building under construction just south of Alumni Hall.

The New Engineering Building (NEB) is poised to be a landmark building for the Western campus. NEB will house the rapidly expanding engineering faculty that is expecting an additional 880 undergraduate students, 100 graduate students, 24 faculty, and 5 staff.

They have now poured a large section of what some might call the 2nd floor slab and have poured some of the walls and posts. This assumes they call it the second floor if approaching from the east side. From the west side it would be the L1 floor.

Have now poured a section of what some might call the ground floor slab in the SW corner of this building. And even have a few of the ground floor posts poured now. Still working on forming and steel rebar for the north end ground floor slab. Should see all of the ground floor slab poured within the next two weeks and more progress on the ground floor walls and posts.

Do you know if there are already metal framing or drywall professionals working there? I heard that the subcontractor is from Hamilton.

Not yet. Just bare concrete walls and posts and floor slabs at this point.

Have now poured the ground floor slab on the north section of this new building. Forming for the 2nd floor slab is progressing well on the SW corner of the south side.
