A Milwaukee blister in the sun

Muzak:
Video Link

I was in Milwaukee last weekend for a few days. This was my second trip to the Good Land, the first being in April 2023, covered here.

Great medium sized city. A mini Chicago in terms of layout and feel, although missing that public transit component so necessary. My GF's daughter just moved to the Murray Hill area for grad school at UWM so that's where we stayed. There are some great neighborhoods out that way and they are relatively walkable.

Also, I've wanted to kayak the Milwaukee River since Steely posted his pics of doing so many years ago. We did that on this trip. What a fun way to experience the city. Even better to hit up Lakefront Brewing at our turnaround point. I highly recommend it.

The pictures...as always...this time I tried to get angles and places that I didn't get last time...

Nice tour. It's been way to long since I visited Milwaukee. Always loved that east side neighborhood.

Ohh!!!!

Urban kayaking pics! Yes!

It's been WAY too long since I've kayaked on the Milwaukee River (stupid kids).

This set was a lot of fun, thanks!

Great set.

The more I see and learn about Milwaukee it truly is one of the most underappreciated cities in America.

When I'm out walkin', I strut my stuff -- yeah, I'm so strung out

Nice tour. MKE is one of the few big cities left in the US I have yet to visit.

Great pics! I love Milwaukee. In such a better place than most of its northern peer cities. The center city doesn't feel hollowed out.

Thanks for all the comments. Milwaukee is I believe vastly under-rated.

A little bonus: On the way down to Chicago I made my girlfriend take a 30 minute detour to the SC Johnson Company headquarters by Frank Lloyd Wright in Racine. Unfortunately they only give tours on Saturdays so I was only able to get some exterior shots from beyond the fence line. As an Arizona State alum (which has the largest Wright archive outside of Taliesin), I was absolutely sick of even thinking about Wright by the time I graduated architecture school. As I've gotten older, I've come to appreciate much more about his design philosophy and interesting tricks, even if not the buildings themselves. This one in particular though is quite interesting. I so wish I could have seen the interior floral columns in the main workspace.

Fortaleza Hall by Norman Foster, built to house an airplane of all things, was added to the campus in 2010:

Directly across the street is an old fire station, built in 1900. Very medieval in terms of architecture. It is currently used as a residence:

Milwaukee is a very pleasant surprise. Haven't been there for a while, need to change that, and used to live there for a couple of years. One of the better cities.
