Some pics of the capital and biggest city in Jordan, Amman.











Aside from some high profile areas, Jordanian cities aren't very walkable by Western standards. Sidewalks randomly end or are routinely blocked by trees, cars, and random stuff. Getting around the city is an adventure.







Of all the things I was expecting to see in Amman, a knockoff beaver tail shop wasn't one of them. Sadly it didn't survive.

I think that's the first time I've seen beavertails for sale outside of Canada. Hell, they're very difficult to find IN Canada. I can't think of a place near me in Vancouver that sells them.

Interesting. This country would be friendly and safe to foreign tourists, which is great in this otherwise troubled region.
See the map of safety status by the French ministry of foreign affairs if your're curious.
Jordan is in yellow, which means something like "be cautious, but this is no no-go zone".
Of course it'd be perfect if all was in green, but yellow is not bad given the overall situation in these regions.

Very nice and interesting photos! Is Amman chaotic? I love chaotic cities.

It totally looks like the kind of city I would love to explore.

How long did it take to get from Petra to Amman?

And I've never heard of Beaver Tails!

They're not for sale there anymore, it looks like it's been closed for a while. Yeah, beavertails are pretty much only sold at tourist attractions and festivals. You won't find them at a standard neighbourhood bakery.

Everyone I know was worried about safety given what's happening in Gaza. And there's no question about where Jordanian sympathies lie. But it's very welcoming to Westerners and the country on the whole wants nothing to do with the instability that surrounds them.

I don't know if chaotic is the word - definitely more so than a typical North American or northern European city. The rules of the road take some getting used to, downtown is very busy, and vendors are assertive. But it's nothing that someone who's used to travelling hasn't experienced before.

Amman to Petra is around 3 hours.

I certainly won't blame on them for that. 60% of the Jordanian people would have some Palestinian background and all people are entitled to defend their right to be.

I would simply blame on extremist assholes on both sides.
Besides, the few Christians who're still brave enough to live over there feel lost and need our help.
I'm not saying we should enforce any Christian faith over there as if we were crazy bigots, nuts and medieval Crusaders, but at least, we should fund peacemakers.

That's because they need more money. Unlike some neighboring countries, Jordan is not filthy full of fossil fuels...

Even my mom recently visited their country and felt sympathy for them. She says they're a good people.
