Winnipeg North End Thread

I don't live in the north end but I find myself driving though there a lot. I rarely ever actually stop in the north end, but I always notice nice old buildings and colorful homes. It has it's charm. The north end has lot of potential. Decided to open this thread to share anything north end related, pics, videos, construction, news and cultural events etc etc

I'll start of the thread with some pics I took on McGregor.

St. Volodymyr Ukranian Catholic Church. Corner of McGregor and Stella ave

Same corner as church above

Intersection of McGregor and Selkirk

Association of United Ukranian Canadians Labour temple.
McGregor and Pritchard

McGregor and Manitoba

Thanks for starting this thread, Luisito. I often drive up McGregor, and those buildings in your photos are some of the many that I always take note of. I look forward to seeing all the directions this thread will go.

I don't live in the North End but my children go to Holy Ghost school on Selkirk. I assume there was large Polish and Ukrainian immigrant population at some point.

Definitely some beauty in the neighbourhood. Some houses that are well kept and lovely, next to ones boarded up with old street signs. Saw a teen getting hauled away by cops from his house the other morning. So there's definitely that aspect to it as well.

Here's one of Charles ave from last winter:

Awesome pic, thanks for sharing.

Holy Ghost school has an interesting looking Church, I would like to see the inside someday.

We lived on Emslie Street, our first house after we were married. Beautiful neighbourhood. Both of our boys attended 6 Jim Whitecross air cadet squadron at McGregor armories. 6 Squadron is the oldest air cadet squadron in Canada.

Random shots of Selkirk Ave. Starting from around Aikins St where the Holy Ghost church is to just past McGregor.

Great thread, and great pictures!
I'll have to see if I can dig up some shots of the area.
In the summer months, I'll often bike from the Forks to Kildonan Park, via Point Douglas, St. John's Park, and Scotia. Lots of great sights to see along the way. And we always stop at Baraka Pita on Main St.

Ha, my kids also. It is disheartening with so many houses burning to the ground in the immediate area. There is a nice apt. block at Manitoba and Aikens. There is also a nice church converted to mosque and synagogue across the street on Burrows at Charles. Nice to stop at Gunns Bakery after dropping the kids off.

I was searching for something completely unrelated and came across this video on youtube. It's an interesting story of a Black American family that moved to Winnipegs north end in the early 1900's. I really like hearing storys about families like this, thought I would share it here.
