Previously I posted in the Le Viu thread, but thought I would start a new thread for the new building Le Viu2 - not sure of the exact address, but next door to 185 Rue Laurier (Le Viu).
Today the crane is being installed.

Looks like another nice building. I was surprised how much they are asking. The per SQ FT price is higher than 700 Sussex resale. So basically higher than anywhere in Ottawa. I guess the market is retirees and young professionals from Gatineau side who don't want to cross the river but want a new chic downtown condo? I guess they don't have a lot of competition in this segment.
Viu 1 units seem to languish though compared to Ottawa condos which mostly get snapped up in days.
I remember going to an open house in phase I about 5 years ago to visit a 650k 2 bedroom facing south (towards the older building) and thinking “wow this building is very close to the balcony”. But it’s nothing compared to the small space between phase I and II. I feel for the people who bought those expensive North facing units with a giant terrace (and paying a premium for it) only to find a building blocking their “Viu” a few years later. Too bad.

I don't think anyone who bought those units were unaware that phase 2 was imminent...
So who gets to live in the white box? Is that one unit (double floor)? Or is it just an interesting feature on the building.
Originally that box was an architectural feature, a cutout, a hole right in the middle of the building! I think they changed their mind and put a unit in there after they had started construction.
I am always surprised at how the Le View buildings dwarf Port de Plaisance, which is an older condo building immediately to the west of them (grey concrete with teal trim).
Port de Plaisance always looked pretty tall during all those decades it was alone on that segment of Laurier.
I'm happy for Port de Plaisance. It's architecture and angled positioning adds some interest to the skyline. Viu 2 is decent, but looks a bit too much like the original. Still better than many other projects (CP I-IV, for example).
