Yeah im not a fan of it either. If it was just the oval shape without the box tacked on I think it would look a lot better and reference Central City 1 better. Need to see some other angles though.

Also, the corner of the mall access road (future City Parkway) and Old Yale looks poorly thought out. Boulevard/setback along Old Yale looks too wide too.

I like the Plaza and walkway under the podium though.

Need to see some other angles.

I wonder what it looks like from the back? I do like the oval shape and the box out. I think the tower would look a lot better if the oval part was a lot taller and the box out was a different colour.

All we have is a very preliminary rendering, I suspect the final version will be different, it always is.

It's still in developmental stage. So the design could completely change. I'm not a fan of it either. Nothing with the design seems to flow and it seems forced.

Is that supposed to be a plaza or a driveway? That section is crazy.

Let's all hope that this is a very very early render and someone with some sense comes along and fixes it up.

Agreed with Flynn 86's comments -
but what's really weird is that the "box" is really only a "bookcover", as the façade facing KGB is curved.
I'm wondering if the west façade is flat or curved?

I'm thinking the floorplate is like this:

Which is sort of like the shorter of the 2 Palisades condo towers (1288 Alberni),

The Lower Mainland protruding box is now a sign of the times. Not sure where it came from but it seems to have all started with the Shang ri la.

Fugly. A definitely hope the building committees and such send them back to the drawing board. Especially at such a critical intersection, with what is being built around that area, and how this would be a direct tie into start connecting King George density to Surrey Central density.

Square towers are functional .... That's why they are the most common anywhere in the world. Oval towers look good but lose out on valuable square footage and cost more to build. I'd love to see another significant office tower on that site. Thin and tall, dark glazing, mixed use, including retail at grade... The future is bright for Surrey

That's part of the reason I'm so fascinated with Las Vegas. Nowhere else on Earth would companies build such wildly bizarre buildings one next to the other.

You should see Dubai or Hong Kong, believe me Vegas pales in comparison.
