The google maps image for Halifax has just been updated, and it's incredibly recent. I have the photo pegged somewhere in between June 10 (Icon Bay Cranes went up this day and are clearly visible) and July 4 (Junior Officer's Building at Fleet Club's crane is not up).
Anybody else think they can pinpoint this image's date?

It's probably June 11, as Maasdam was in on July 3 with QM2, but is not in the satellite photo.

Reason: I don't need no stinkin' reason!
I was looking at this the other day at work, some interesting new things I noticed were:
- new clearing in west Bedford off Kearney Laker Road
- new clearing for Sandy Lake
- new clearing of Herring Cover Rd near long pond
- Burnside expansion including long woods road to a quarry towards the back of the Municipal Enterprises (Dexter Construction) quarry
- Paper Mill Lake still low
- Sandy Lake (the one on former Bowwater land) just past 103 exit 5 is also low for damn maintenance
- new clearing of right of way for 103 twinning
Google maps has live traffic for most cities in canada now, including Regina and Saskatoon. Both of which have about half the population of HRM. I wonder why nothing for Halifax? Or if it's even on Google's radar....would be cool to have.

Silly question - everyone knows there is nothing but a blank void of nothingness in Canada east of Montreal. Why would it be on Google's radar???
It's been a long time coming, but Google Maps (including the 3D view!) has been updated for Halifax last night, looks to be taken from ~October. It's awesome to see all the progress that's been made since the last update! Some notable snapshots:
It always amazes me looking at Google Maps of HRM just how much green space we have around the city and on the outskirts. I'm not an expert, but it seems like it has the right laws in place to remain protected. Specifically Blue Mountain and Terence Bay.
Halifax doesn't need to develop those vast protected areas. I think I heard several years ago that Halifax can add ~150,000 people just by infilling vacant parcels of land on the peninsula and central Dartmouth. They seem to be concentrating on this strategy. It will probably do the city for about 50 years, infilling vacant or semi-vacant areas, and adding to already inhabited areas like the corner of Robie/Spring Garden. It looks like they're also concentrating on specific parcels of land near highways, like Port Wallace and possibly Paper Mill Lake in Bedford. Halifax can continue to grow at a healthy rate, while continuing to protect its green space, which act as the lungs to keep this city free of pollution.

At its present rate of progress, that SGR/Robie development may need more time.
