13 New Pre-Fabricated Wall Reduces Plywood Use and Enhances Earthquake Protection
PERRIS, CA – January 13, 2012—California TrusFrame and Smart Components ® allow builders of commercial and residential structures to reduce their dependency on plywood structural shear panels and install stronger walls able to resist severe lateral movement from earthquakes and high winds. The innovative approach to wall construction has appeared in a retail/apartment building in MacArthur Park (Los Angeles), Hollywood and Garfield (Los Angeles), as well as a dozen homes in California, Arizona, and Nevada.
Smart Components® are manufactured using dimension lumber, metal connector plates and patented concentric hold-down connectors developed by Trussed, Inc. This new generation of pre-fabricated trussed frames and panels has the strength to resist lateral and vertical forces because the design features provide critical load resistance, which exceed the strength of conventional shear panels used in wall construction. In the past, wood trusses using metal connector plates have been mainly used for floors and roofs. Trussed Inc. has engineered the same approach for building walls.
