Timeline of your city's best new high-rises

I made a lil rant about Vancouver's stagnating architectural progress and a visual timeline of past achievements made for a useful analysis. It'll be interesting to see other cities' timelines showing their best highrises by year. Try to use a similar format to make the thread easier to navigate.

In the ensuing decade, the rest of the world has caught up and surpassed us. If you take away all the projects in this list, the "average" tower built today has had almost zero progress from the Concord Pacific towers of the 90's. Like, why can't some of our mid-market boxes look as well-resolved as the one from 1998? Looking among the better projects though, it looks like there's a shift from curves to sharp angles over the last decade too.

As a Washingtonian... what's a highrise?



(What I mean to say is: Since you can't exactly call anything in D.C. a "highrise" the way you can for Vancouver, can I use the immediate suburbs (Arlington, Alexandria, etc.) or will you accept D.C.'s midrise residential?)

I picked the first "contemporary" tower that I liked... just nothing historic cuz that's too pessimistic My list has office towers in it too, so any type of highrise is ok. It'll be interesting though to also see the quality of condo construction elsewhere, as I'm mostly only familiar with the Canadian market.

LA's high-rise growth simply hasn't been big enough these past few decades to have a decent best-of-the-year list like Vancouver.

But no longer. Check back with me in twenty years and such a list will be difficult not because of a lack of new highrises, but because there will be so many that it will be hard to choose each year.

Wow, D.C.'s are surprisingly fantastic (I counted roughly 10 I would potentially mistake for being early-20th century). While there are certainly glass buildings (especially as of the last few years), it's nice to see such a wide mix of facades.

Wow, I can't believe all of those DC buildings are new. Not a fan of faux-historicism though. The only ones I liked are 1996 and 2008. Looking foward to the Ingels-esque 2014 proposal.

Hoping to see more compilations from some big condo cities... New York, Miami, Hong Kong, etc...

The only reason I chose multiple buildings for some years is because we literally had a 12 year span where there was almost no highrise development from 1992-2004. I thought that would be okay, if not I can remove some. And I didn't add the years onto the photos because I'm limited on time. I removed some and condensed it a little. Lemme know if you want any changes

^^No worries. I have multiple buildings for some years and none for other years. Depends on whether I liked them... did the building push the envelope for its time? The focus is on quality rather than quantity.
