Quincy, CA

After my sister changed her mind last minute not to go out of state for college, and no longer need my help to move, I decided to use my week to take an impromptu road trip up through Northern California. I traveled over 900 miles over the course of 3.5 days and got to see a good slice of the middle part of our state. I hope you enjoy.

Quincy, CA (pop 1,728)



Quincy is neither an incorporated city nor the largest community within Plumas County (Chester, East Quincy and Portola are larger). It is, however, the seat of this county of 20,007 and truthfully one of the highlights of my trip. Perhaps in comparison to the disconnect I felt in Susanville, I warmed to Quincy quickly as it reminded me of the foothill community I grew up in. It is a compact, walkable town that is set nicely in a valley with mountains and a forest as backdrop. East Quincy, its more populous neighbor a mile down the road, looked much more sprawled on the map, so, I kept to Quincy proper.

















The Plumas County Courthouse. I liked this building, but, it seemed a little out of scale for such a relatively small community (and county).

Great pictures! You definitely are trying to hit up as many county seats and county courthouses as possible if you're stopping in an unincorporated community.

Quincy looks like another great sunny California town in the mountains. It's another place with a natural setting that makes me think of "Get Together" by the Youngbloods.

The more I'm on this board, the more I realize how mind-bogglingly diverse the subjects covered here are... we get everything from South India to Bolivia to Paris to Pemba Mozambique to Dayton Ohio to Hamilton Canada to small town Northern California, and we get them all from talented photographers. This forum is truly incredible.

That being said, this thread was another great addition to your series on Northern California... Like most of the places you've covered, I've never been and never heard of it. I pretty much have no clue what's above Sacramento and below Oregon. That makes me appreciate your series all the more.

I´m enjoying these tours across Northern California. I love these small and quiet towns, surrounded by wild nature. I´ve liked to see Mt Lassen over the lake. It´s wonderful!
