Forgotten Columbus: Sullivant Ave, Hilltop

Paralleling W Broad, Sullivant serves as the secondary commercial corridor for both the Hilltop and Franklinton. The Hilltop portion is longer and the western edge is painfully car-oriented as you will see. Here I start out west and move in towards the inner-city. Sullivant actually has a rather good rate of occupied commercial structures. Houses tend to be hit or miss. My camera battery died so there are just two commercial buildings missing on the edge of the Hilltop section which just becomes green space on one side and residential on the other. Once you cross I-71 you're on Franklinton's side of Sullivant.

First the ugly extremities on the west end.

West of Demorest to Sullivant Ave's end looks like more of the same, so I'm heading towards the more interesting urban stretch.

It was a one-of-a-kind place. Glad I got there before they closed.

I've heard good things.

While most Somalis are up in NE Columbus there is a sizable presence here. The west side also has seen more Russians and Ukrainians move in.

Found throughout Columbus and they're good.

Camp Chase Confederate Cemetery.

This is just like those ice cream joints you find in any small Ohio town.

Couple of abandoned structures on Hague.

:?

One of few places to offer patio space on this street.

After the Ernest series had ended Vern had to move on.

Howdy neigh-bor!

Do you have the guts to step foot into Big Nickel Tavern? I don't.

Are there three add-ons to that house?

I'm kinda scared to.

Pretty much as nice as commercial buildings get over here.

Slaw dog and a drink for $2.55: They moved up to nicer digs on W Broad.
