I finally got a new camera around a month ago so here's a few pics taken about 3 weeks ago. I was going to wait to get some people and food shots, but since the leaves are already falling I might as well get rid of these here...... enjoy!

I got a Nikon D80. I'm happy with it, I'm just mad my schedule has been way too full lately to actually be able to use it like I wanted to.

And Yaletown Fella, I didn't know what to think of it. I thought maybe it was a chrysler that someone tried to turn into a rolls royce lol...

Get rid of them? This is a great set. I love suburban tours because we see places that are never highlighted. These photographs are beautifully done.

The little ranch house with the huge car gave me a chuckle. Extreme Americana.

Nice tour! Much more in-depth than I was expecting. That's an area of Chicago land I never really made it down to. I always wanted to go to Blue Island, but never got a chance before I moved.

Seems like a solid middle class blue-collar type neighborhood with everyone driving American. Not too many imports in those photos.

Cool tour of a town most people would otherwise never see.

I've always been fascinated by the ring of satellite mini-cities (in the sense of being actual urban centers with recognizable density and downtowns) each about 30-40 miles in orbit around Chicago... Gary, Chicago Heights, Joliet, Aurora, Elgin, Waukegan. Chicago Heights is the most junior of all of these, but still has some nice grit to it.

The nicer homes are indicative of the job-rich manufacturing past of the area. There are still a surprisingly large number of active factories in the area, mostly oriented around steel product fabrication and other automotive needs (glass & plastic).

Yup. One of the biggest employers in town is a Ford stamping plant, and other nearby factories deal in auto glass and auto plastics.

Cool! I lived at about 23rd and Wallace in the early 90's. My neighborhood at the time was largely Italian and Hispanic at the time. I saw some of the most artistic graffiti when I lived there. Thanks for posting these.

Nice neighbourhood, full of contrasts. Those Rolls are awesome, specially the limousine one.

Some houses are very pretty. I like to see the grass in front of the houses, and the squirrel in that fence. It´s wonderful to see squirrels around the houses and in the parks.

I hope to see more pictures taken with your new Nikon.

Can't say I've ever been to Chicago Heights. I also wasn't aware that it was a steel town. It looks pretty intact for a steel town... then again, I guess there's still some factory jobs in the area.
