A few days ago I was in Georgetown with a few minutes to kill and happened to have my fiance's little pocket camera with me, so I walked over to the new park along the Potomac River waterfront and snapped a few pictures.
The park is situated between the Potomac River and the elevated Whitehurst Freeway. Georgetown's famous shops pick up a couple of blocks on the other side of the highway.
Here's an overview. In the distance you can see the Kennedy Center and Watergate.
Pleasant enough. Nothing too special.
The park has been opening in phases since 2008. Here you can see part of it still under construction:
It used to be a parking lot. Good change.
Under the Whitehurst is a unique place for DC. We don't have much of this steel look that's so common in other northeast cities.
Looking out over the Potomac. Note the low-flying plane coming in to land at National Airport. They fly right in over the river.
