Fantastic shots!
That hulking structure has been sitting vacant on top of the hill in Dansville for decades. I've always been too chicken to sneak in but next time I'm home I may try with my nephew who has been there a few times.
Did you go to the presentation by some developer who has big plans for the buildings?

I went with a friend of mine who likes photography also. we were just bored and decided to head there. It is an awesome building but very boring to shoot. It has been stripped of anything cool to look at for the most part. everything is destroyed or gone.

it was a old sanitarium in the 1800's then converted to a health spa, then converted to a hotel. and its been abandoned for about 48 years. its got a lot of history.

Beautiful building. This would make one stellar rehab. The views are nice and obviously the old architecture. I've seen a couple of these old hospitals become condos and office buildings. Those brick vaulted ceilings would be absolutely amazing exposed.

I was shocked to see this here because Dansville is my home town. This building was an old health spa or "water cure" as it used to be called. There was a mineral spring that came out of the hillside that was thought to have healing qualities. Many famous people of the time came to Dansville from big cities like New York to stay there. The Erie Lackawanna Railway ran along the top of the hillside above this building. Dansville is a great little town with a rich history. Clara Barton started the first chapter of the Red Cross here. The area around Rochester was also influential in the anti slavery and women's rights movements.

This is also the place where granola was invented.

God alone knows why, but I was just thinking about this place the other day before I ever looked at these photos. I remember seeing the sanitarium featured on an urban exploration website, and then I remember looking up the town to see if I could locate the sanitarium itself -- and there it is, looming over all and sundry.

One of the artifacts I recall seeing on that website was a card that read, "Celebrating (blah) years of successful slimming!"

it was such a perfect day to go there too. The weather was nice, The views were amazing. They did receive a grant of 2.5 million to restore it but it requires way too much work for that to even touch it.
