3 new buildings for SAIT: A flythrough

I didn't see anyone pick this up in the construction thread: the new TTC building at SAIT was unveiled on Sept. 1 while I was busy being an "Expert" down at the WorldSkills competition. So, better late than never, here's the link:

Impressive. I'd seen the renders that were posted in the construction thread, but the video and the discussion in it really adds to the dimension of what they are wanting to do.

Does ACAD own their own buildings across from SAIT? I wonder if SAIT would ever consider using these buildings for their own needs in the event ACAD ever vacated them in favour of cool digs downtown?

SAIT actually owns the ACAD building, which is why in the long term ACAD will likely be moving to their own campus somewhere as in the SAIT campus master plan they did envision that SAIT will need that space eventually

Sorry! I didn't realize the announcement had been discussed already! I even did a forum search on the construction thread but I guess I missed something.

At any rate, yes: SAIT does own the ACAD building. ACAD rents it at $1 a year from SAIT, in my understanding. And yes, the long term plan is for ACAD to vacate.

Personally, I can't wait - the program I teach for is slated to move into that space after the big break-up.

This project is pretty awesome, EXCEPT for that horrible 80's style glass that is so prominent from this view. WHY?

The part that i'm most interested to see is the new frontage along 16th Ave, will be nice to have a nice clear glass wall instead of that horrible parkade they had before. Still really impressed with SAIT lately, that school knows exactly where they are going.

AGREED!!!

It's like the old entrances to Chinook centre. And Montana has them too! Why does this city love that so much?

I was a little puzzled when I first saw that shot too, the last time I went past SAIT the demolishing of the parking garage had just begun

It was shot from the top of Nose Hill at f2.8 , I've never seen DOF that wide at 2.8
