I just got e-mail from Apple that they have announced that they will open their new store at Rideau this Saturday, July 18th at 9:30 a.m.!

I am getting so excited!

A new Apple Store in Ottawa, Canada will be having its grand opening this Saturday, July 18th at 9:30 a.m.. As indicated by construction photographs, the Rideau Center location has very similar elements to the company's other retail establishments, such as the Genius Bar and wall displays. Compared to other stores, the single-story outlet is larger than average. This should not come as much of a surprise, considering the store will be the first of its kind in Ottawa, the nation's capitol, and only the ninth so far in all of Canada.

The only other Apple Stores in Ontario have been built in the Toronto area, leaving Ottawa residents with a shorter drive to the Montréal locations. Filling of the void may come as a relief to many, as the only other dedicated Apple carriers in the city are re-sellers such as Carbon Computing and the Mac Group.

Those visiting the store at 50 Rideau Street on Saturday will be directed by a Concierge wearing an orange shirt. The first 1000 visitors will be given a free Apple t-shirt.

Carbon Computing in Hintonburg can't be happy about that. They only opened a year ago, and their building really brightens up that stretch of Wellington. Hope this doesn't sink them.

Thankfully, swanky/trendy/hip/whatever you wanna call it businesses are slowly but surely migrating east from West Wellington Village into Hintonburg. Also, I see Carbon Computing still succeeding if only for the sake of convenience and prices, but with all that cosntruction and the new Apple Store, well...You never know for sure...

Because you want a better looking desktop or laptop to run Debian on....

I agree, I could not for my life own an ugly computer. But saying that, Apple computers are of lousy built quality, the old ones turn yellow, had only a 18-bit monitor instead of 24 (just that is a big WTF), lousy sound card.

I use everything under the sun for work from rack mounted linux servers to touchscreen tablets, and lots of apple gear.

I haven't had a bad apple in the bunch I've bought over the last 3 years. There are some areas of stuff that they don't do as well and there are some that they shine at (video editing). Their newer MacBook Pros are our standard laptop even when its going to be windows only.

Next time I upgrade all my computing stuff at home I'll probably just go with a dedicated PC for real work and programming and move all my surfing/photos/personal stuff to an iMac. I feel you really can't beat 'em for that day-to-day stuff.
