Surrey Canada Day

Quote:

Surrey Canada Day has grown to become the largest Canada Day event in Western Canada with attendance in 2008 reaching 100,000 people garnering near legendary status as one of the biggest outdoor shows ever staged in BC.

Coast Capital Savings and City of Surrey are proud to present Surrey Canada Day 2009, which is certain to exceed the attendance record set in 2008 and deliver a tremendous day of family fun, community friendship and great entertainment under Surrey’s clear blue skies.

This year’s main stage presented by Chevron boasts another stellar Canadian line up featuring multi-platinum alt-rock legends, 54-40 and Vancouver ‘s own rock royalty, Bif Naked for an amazing double bill, which will be followed by the Fruiticana Fireworks Spectacular

Add a special children’s matinee with magicians, jugglers, dancers and songsters and the Chevron Main Stage will be a wonderful place to celebrate being Canadian on July 1st.

Other attractions include Shooting Star Amusement Rides featuring the Gravitron and the Zipper, plus a full range of family-oriented games, interactive gaming, and bouncy castles will ensure that there is lots to do for the kids and the young-at-heart. This action zone will feature seven huge inflatables and ten new midway rides and games.

Seniors can look forward to an impressive gathering for the Strawberry Tea hosted by Mayor and Council.

The Fuiticana Fireworks Spectacular is once again being simulcast on Rock 101 featuring an explosive pyro-technique display set to some of the greatest Canadian classic rock songs of all time – broadcast live on the radio beginning at 10:15 pm

Don’t miss the entertainment on the Rogers Fusion Stage.

An event of this magnitude would not be made possible with out the generous sponsorship from the local business in the community. Surrey’s Canada Day has support from many sectors of business including this year’s presenting sponsor Coast Capital Savings, Fruiticana, Chevron and BC Hydro, and many more.

MORE TO COME!!!

Other events are held in cities across Metro Vancouver!!!

So another typically boring Canada Day like every year. The Surrey one sounds interesting, however....but it's pretty far. I guess I will be chilling with friends on my balcony watching the fireworks like I do every year.

they have had them for a few years at ambelside in west van - we walked out to stanley park and watched one year along with a few hundred other people who knew about them, the police even drove in their car around the seawall due to the hundred of people gathered on that one side of stanley park

Correct me if I am thinking of another day, but did they not have fireworks off Canada Place last year? I seem to remember sitting at the top of Sentinel Hill in WV watching the WV and Vancouver shows simultaneously.

Left coaster is correct, there were fireworks last year at Canada Place as well as the year before after a few years of no fireworks. There will be fireworks again this year as well.

This is going to be the first Canada Day that I won't be in Canada for.

I'm going to be in Paris … I wonder if there'd be any Canadians celebrating there somewhere?

We had Canada Day fireworks on July 1, 2003...the night before we won the Olympic bid. That was the last time we had them until 2007, when we had a duo show at Coal Harbour and Ambleside...and again for 2008 and 2009.

So here is one thing why the events @ Canada Place can't be confirmed yet. It is because they did not update their website and when you click on "special events"...it is still the old table for last year.

I don't know why it is taking them so long to change everything. Also, the HBC Run website is still in 2008 as well.

I'm pretty sure that there will be something happening at the embassy. There usually is something happening at such places especially in London.

I believe the embassy in Paris is close to Arc de Triomphe, just off Avenue des Champs-Elysees.

Here is something someone emailed to me.

CANADA DAY AT CANADA PLACE

Taking it to the streets and harbour front as Canada Place proudly hosts

Canada’s Largest 142nd Birthday Celebration outside of our nation’s capital

Vancouver, BC - Canada Place proudly presents its 22nd annual Canada Day Celebration this July 1st in the heart of Vancouver with a new street style festival, starting at Canada Place, the inspiring national landmark, and stretching west along the harbour front to Harbour Green Park. Enjoy the quintessential West Coast experience of an ocean breeze, majestic views of the North Shore Mountains & Stanley Park and Inspirationally Canadian performances from 10am -7pm. New this year is the 1st annual Canada Day parade at 7pm on Georgia Street presented by the Burrard Inlet Fireworks Society. Capping off the day is the 3rd annual Canada Day Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show, a two-barge fireworks extravaganza viewable from several communities.

Canada Day at Canada Place is the place to be on July 1st with non stop music and activities on the Coast Capital Savings Mountain View Main Stage, the Canada Place Plaza Stage, the Celebrate Canada Stage and throughout the festival grounds. Featured entertainers include Elise Estrada, Delhi 2 Dublin, DJ Leanne, Soulstream, Top 10 Finalists from So You Think You Can Dance Canada, Dal Richards, Laurell, Rumba Calzada, and many more!

Welcoming the World to Canada’s Games – a cool experience of winter sports in the 20TENT, test your skills snowboarding or with slap shot hockey, catch the mesmerizing aerial displays of the Flying Canucks as they perform high altitude tricks and stunts, sit inside the new PEAK 2 PEAK Whistler Blackcomb Gondola.

Celebrating what makes us all proud to be Canadian, there is something for everyone to enjoy with our rich and diverse culture, people and talent. Meet Canada’s Army, Navy and Air Force heroes and get your photo taken inside a tank or F18 cockpit. Authentic maple taffy, poutine and crepes will be served and Francophone music will be performed in the Maillardville 100 Zone, celebrating the community’s 100th anniversary. The morning Citizenship Ceremony will once again welcome new members to our Canadian Family in a heartfelt ceremony and the bouncy castles and waterpark in the Kids Zone at Harbour Green Park will experience nonstop action along with temporary tattoos, face painting, games and the 2010 Legacies Now SportFit™program.

Canada Day at Canada Place 2008 was nominated for National Event of the Year by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) and was the largest Canada Day celebration outside of Ottawa hosting over 120,000 proud Canadians and guests (I thought Surrey always claimed to be the largest in western Canada?). This year the spectacular free family community event will feature the inaugural Canada Day parade and once again be capped off with the Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show at 10:30pm, lighting up the night by way of a two barge simultaneous show! For information on Canada Day fireworks visit www.canadadayfireworks.ca.

Canada Day at Canada Place is presented by Canada Place Corporation. Special thanks to our great supporters Celebrate Canada Committee for British Columbia and the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Department of National Defense, Coast Capital Savings, Edgewater Casino, Western Union, Port Metro Vancouver, BC Ferries, MBNA and our media partners: CTV, CKNW, 99.3 The FOX, The Vancouver Sun, OMNI and CHMB AM1320.
