Emporia, KS - The Flint Hills Series Part 7

Manhatten, KS - The Flint Hills Series Part 1
Junction City, KS - The Flint Hills Series Part 2
Abilene, KS - The Flint Hills Series Part 3
Salina, Ks - The Flint Hills Series Part 4
Council Grove, KS - The Flint Hills Series Part 5
Cottonwood Falls, KS - The Flint Hills Series Part 6

About 15 miles east of Cottonwood Falls on US 50 lies Emporia. Emporia is not actually in the Flint Hills, but on the eastern edge. The city has approximately 27,000 people and is home to the Emporia State Hornets. Let's check it out!!

On the southern edge of downtown heading north

A few empty storefronts, but all in all, the downtown looks to be in pretty good shape!!

I think these are lofts going up. Not a bad idea, especially in a college town.

In the last thread, you got to see arguably the oldest courthouse in the state of Kansas. Here, is arguably one of the newest.

Enough of downtown!! Time for a few pics of Emporia State University, home of the Hornets!! This university has approximately 7,000 students; both undergraduate and graduate.

Say hello to Corky!! I had a dog named Corky...........

Emporia State U. anchors the north end of downtown.

A major renovation underway!!

This massive building I believe is the city hall, and also a civic center of some sort.

Damn!! That horn is loud!!

Well, that's it for Emporia, and just about it for the Flint Hills Series. But I do have one other town for you to check out before I call it quits. Stay tuned!!

Nice pictures. It doesn't look too bad. The new courthouse look alright for a small modern building.

Is Topeka next?

Cool, I can't recall ever seeing pics of this city before. Fairly good sized school. We had a pet parakeet named Corky when I was a kid. I like the alley framing on that blue building. And this may sound like a dumb question, but what is the small building on the corner?

Thanks for the tour kcex.

Another good tour!

I like this:

No reason to let an alleyway ruin a nice street wall.

Interesting town. Someone else mentioned the flight control tower on top of the building. Interesting idea for mixed use.
