Hortons holdup suspect shot by police

January 23, 2009
DANIEL NOLAN and RACHEL DE LAZZER
The Hamilton Spectator

Police shot one of two men who led them on a wild chase across the Mountain last night after a hold up at a Tim Hortons.
Shortly after 9 p.m., police were called to the Tim Hortons on Upper James Street near Stone Church Road in response to a report of two men with a shotgun.
Two men, dressed in black and wearing ski masks, fled the store and got into a silver car.
Police then pursued a car on the Lincoln Alexander Parkway. They exited the Linc at Upper Wentworth, then drove north on Upper Wentworth to Concession Street, hitting speeds of 100 km/h. They then went west on Concession to Belvidere Avenue, south on Belvidere to Wycliffe Avenue, then west to Elcho Street.
On Wycliffe, one of two suspects was shot in the arm and captured, while the other fled but a resident says he was told police later caught him, too. Police called in the canine unit to help in the search for the second man.
The shooting happened on Barry Stephen’s property on Wycliffe.
“There was a fellow in the snow right by my back steps and some blood in the snow,” he said, adding the man ended up in front of the gate to his back yard.
Stephens says he overheard one officer say to another there was a shotgun lying in the snow and he could see part of a weapon.
He said he was advised that they got the second man.
A young resident was reading comic books in her living room in her home on nearby Rosedene Avenue when she heard “two or three” bangs around 9:20 p.m.
“It was a couple of bangs. They were pretty loud.” She ran to tell her mother in a neighbouring room.
“By the time we came out and looked it looked like the entire police force was coming,” said Susan Chisholm, 46.
She says it’s disturbing that the incident happened in their typically quiet neighbourhood.

I seen that on the news! Cheers to the police for catching them so fast! But the sad thing is they will probably be out of prison in about 5 years, maybe less! but some of those people in that Timmies will be traumatized for life! I'am sick of seeing societys garbage get handed these petty sentences for serious crimes.
