Roseville to Reno via Amtrak's California Zephyr

For Christmas, my mother got me a train ticket to come visit her and my sister in Reno, a trip I've always wanted to take. As I was already in the area visiting other family and friends, I took the train from Roseville, a suburb north of Sacramento. I apologize for the quality of some of these as most were taken from the train window.

Sweet snow shots! Fresh snow fall cleans up a city so quickly. Great to look at but driving in it is a whole different story. Thanks for sharing your trip!

Really nice pictures stepper, one of the great things about CA, is being able to drive or ride in and out of snow country if you feel like it....

wow, nice. we were just up in reno. We wanted to take the same trip but Amtrak wanted $270 for the two of us to go from Roseville to Reno and back.

That actually sounds about right from what I paid. It was $120 for me. Though, the trip up to Reno was $80 and the trip back was only $40. I assume the higher price going to Reno is function of the grade the train has to climb to get over the Sierras, costing more to operate the train. Or there is just more demand going in that direction. The train was packed going to Reno, but, open coming back. Still, if you can swing the price, it's definitely worth it!
