Orlando development thread?

I have been searching for a thread on Orlando. If there is already a thread, please inform me. I just found a forum on urban planet.org about Orlando, but it requires a fee to participate in the forum. Here is the link:
http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/Master-List-Downtown-Or-t21027.html

The list of projects is outdated, but if anyone has the time to help, please do so.

By the way, my username is Orlando(I know it's not very creative), because I lived in Orlando when I joined last year. I am now in Portland, and I am active in other city threads.

Here is a beginning of a list of projects that will be posted from the above link:

I'll bump this thread, because I would like to see more Florida threads here.

Awesome pics, thanks for posting! I was in Orlando about a year before those were taken, and a few of those towers were under construction. Nice to see them finished now!

Orland Events Center, Performing Arts Center, and Creative Village

ORLANDO EVENTS CENTER, PERFORMING ARTS CENTER, CITRUS BOWL, CREATIVE VILLAGE, AND ORLANDO WEST DOWNTOWN MASTERPLAN

Lots going on.. The Events Center is under construction! The Orlando Magic will relocate to this more prominent site near downtown. Along with it, there will be a major renovation of the surrounding area. The Performing Arts Center is still under design, and will be located near city hall in downtown.

Other than Miami, the only development going on in Florida is just more urban sprawl times 10000000. Florida disgusts me, its just one big sprawling shopping center with a bunch of houses. Sorry to be rude, but hey, I had to let my frustration out somewhere.

I am not a Florida fan either, but I do like the arts center.

Please post!

There seems to have been a significant amount of views, but not too many replies. Please, feel free to reply so we can get some discussion going on.

So far, some have made some negative comments about Florida and Orlando. I understand, because I've had some similar views. However, there are some strong efforts lately to make Orlando downtown and metro quite a classy cosmopolitan. The Orlando skyline has doubled in the last five years. That's a lot of new highrises. They are making great efforts in making the streets more urban and lively with a lot of new condos and restaurants. There are some parts that are actually quite nice. I will try and find a few articles that I have read in some magazines touting Orlando and its growth.

Anyways, please comment/inquire, etc. Thanks.

I can't comment much, since I haven't been to the area in several years.
I do think Orlando is interesting to follow because it's the largest non-coastal city in Florida.

If I didn't have such strong ties elsewhere, Florida would be at or near the top of the places I would consider moving, especially with some of the real estate deals available in the current market.

I know it's suburban in nature, but what is your opinion of the Orlando-area town of Lake Mary ? I heard someone the other day talking about how nice it is.

I really don't know of Lake Mary. I only lived there for 10 months, but it does sound familiar. There are a lot of nice communities situated among all the lakes. Windermere is probably one of the more presitigious lakeside communities. Tiger Woods, and Shaquille O'Neal have houses there.

DruidCity - Think of Lake Mary basically as Orlando's version of Alpharetta. If you like burbs, it is very nice. A lot of corporate office developments, higher-end housing, etc.

A few years ago there was a lot of Florida-related activity on this forum. Then it all but disappeared. It's sad.

Where did they go? I am so surprised at the lack of thread involvement for Florida development. Places like Salt Lake City or Portland, Oregon have a bunch of individual threads and a lot of participants, and a lot of view and replies. It's not like there just isn't a lot of development to talk about in Florida. On the contrary, there is a lot of development going on. Miami is like a smaller version of what's going on in Dubai. There are tower cranes all over that place. Also, Orlando just built like 5 to 10 highrises in the last 5 years.

I hear there are a lot of changes going on in the Orlando area. Should be pretty exciting times down there. I don't live there anymore, so unfortunately I can't keep up with a lot of what's going on. I did hear the my favorite radio station 740 The Team had closed it's doors and some of the shows moved to 540 AM. That is sad. It's a beautiful area though, of course. I hope to get back soon.

I haven't heard of anything yet, but it doesn't mean it might exist. They sure could use it. But, Florida isn't the most progressive state when it comes to mass transit.
