The Renaissance Tower was Sacramento’s first high-rise to reach past the
20th floor and became the cities tallest in 1989. Many locals like to refer to
the building as “Darth Vader” because of its menacing dark appearance.
The tinted-glass high-rise was originally proposed at 25 floors but was
amended to be 28 floors, meaning the tower became 160 feet higher than
the Capitol dome.
This gemlike tower really shimmers late in the day when the suns setting or
when storm clouds are rolling through reflecting slivers of light off the dark
glass. Vader's a tower of many moods… I have tried to capture them in the photos below.
