Talking None of Whangarei

Don't have images of either, but do have many landscape images from around these places.

Wallpapers available if you click on the images.

OK, I do have this one of New Plymouth. Not the best shot I ever took.

But yes please, post your pics.

I love the density of downtown Wellington. And Auckland is just incredible. I certainly wouldn't turn down an opportunity to live in Auckland for a year or two for work. New Zealand overall seems to be an incredibly beautiful country!

Yeah that is one big advantage with New Zealand cities. You are never far from the outdoors. Mountains and coastline are accessible from every city in New Zealand.

Is that a 'cog' type cable car or just a regular cable car going up the mountain?

There are actually 2 cable cars. One goes down and the other up, then swap. So if one stops at a station the other is forced to stop at another station.

It uses cables below. Not sure what you mean by cog. I know what a cog is, but not in the sense of a cog car. Last time I looked I saw the cables going around a cog below the ground in a trough under the cable car. I guess the cars are attached to the cable and the cable rides on cogs and just does a big circle.

This view might answer your question.

(Wallpapers available if you click on the images.)

Here's another view.

At the top, you arrive in the Wellington Botanical Gardens.

I wasn't a big fan of Rotorua, but I liked Auckland and loved Christchurch. I plan to return, spend more time in Christchurch, and visit Dunedin, Invercargill, and Wellington.

What a stunning landscape. It would be great to also see some street-level shots of Auckland if anyone has them.

Street level

Not quite street level shots, but closer to the ground.

I lived in Christchurch for several months going to and from Antarctica. New Zealand is hands down the most beautiful country I've ever seen or expect to see and the people are charming as well.

What I found jaw-dropping was the climatic/geographic diversity from Polynesia, complete with palm trees on the north (think Tahiti) to fjordland and the Southern Alps in the south (think Norway).

Anyway, these are very nice pics. When I was there was well before digital photography so all I have are fading Ectachrome slides. But it was nice to see how Christchurch has changed (not all that much, really).

great pics - although I think it's the natural beauty of NZ that's the real draw - what amazing lush mountains and perfect beaches!
