NEW NORTHERN VESSEL NOW EN ROUTE TO B.C.
The MV Northern Expedition arrives in early March and will be in service late spring
VICTORIA – BC Ferries is pleased to announce its brand new northern vessel, the Northern
Expedition, is now underway for Canada. The ship departed FSG Shipyards in Flensburg,
Germany this morning bound for its new home in British Columbia.
The voyage from Europe to Canada via the Panama Canal is expected to take
approximately 35 days depending on weather. Customers will be able to watch the Northern
Expedition’s progress including its course, position and speed from a link on BC Ferries’
homepage at http://www.bcferries.com/about/northern_expedition_tracker.html
“FSG Shipyards has produced another fine vessel of quality construction for our
customers, which is both on-time and on-budget” said David L. Hahn, BC Ferries’ President and
CEO. “This new ferry offers a cruise-like experience and, coupled with the Northern Adventure
which we introduced in 2007, will greatly enhance customer service on our northern routes.
Together they’ll offer tourists and locals alike an unprecedented and reliable travel experience.”
The 150-metre cruise-ferry boasts 55 modern staterooms, and will accommodate
600 passengers and 130 vehicles. Spacious passenger areas such as the Canoe Café, Vista
Restaurant and the Raven and Aurora Lounges will offer customers plenty of comfort as they
take in the beautiful north coast scenery during their voyage.
The Northern Expedition will commence service on BC Ferries’ Inside Passage route
sailing between Port Hardy and Prince Rupert mid-May in time for the busy summer season. For
full schedule details and reservations for this brand new vessel, visit www.bcferries.com.
