Smile NEW YORK | 785 8th Ave | 566 FT / 173 M | 42 FLOORS | T/O

785 8th Ave
566 FT / 173 M
42 Floors
Ismael Layva Architects

This super narrow tower is part of the new 8th Ave developments that is totally re-making the eastern border of Hells Kitchen. Its north facade rises over the Brazil Grill and is a blank wall. there have been no renders of that side so its unknown whether it will be covered in glass or painted or left as exposed concrete.

Wow! that looks great! And super skinny. Just please tell me they are going to do something with that massive concrete wall.

I would hope so too, though it may house a giant ad.

You can tell that they are wrapping the cladding around in the latest pictures.

what were the architects thinking when they designed those horrible metal squares?
it would be so much better if it was just all glass

I thought that the fins would be balconies, but, apparently, they're not.

Check the render - they just haven't gotten there yet.

^Snafu during restructuring. They didn't make it

@CMack - where? I don't see it. I just see the corners being clad, not any part of the concrete wall. If nothing else, I'm hoping they'll use the huge blank wall for advertisements.

I guess I incorrectly thought that they were on the concrete wall from this picture, but you're right - they are technically just on the corners.

I'm sure, with time, the concrete wall will be clad. (Unless the developer is going to throw up another tower in the plot next to it)

The glass on this looks spectacular. I'll need to keep an eye out for this one the next time I'm on the west side,

Damn....looks good but will look great if something is put on that concrete wall). I love the glass and how the balconies weave. Very thin.

Work on the balconies has started with the installation of the glass panels.

Great building and excellent pic NYC4Life. BTW, to all the NYC'ers who are reconstructing the information that was lost. THANK YOU! I appreciate it.

Is the blank side starting to remind anyone of a McSam?
