The Country Club Historic District begins north of the Denver Country Club at 1st Avenue and extends to 4th Avenue, to 6th Avenue along Circle Drive, and from University Boulevard to Downing Street. William and Arthur Fisher, in collaboration with prominent Boston architect, Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. , designed the exclusive Country Club Place subdivision between Franklin and Race Streets in 1909. The neighborhood is a few miles south/southeast of Downtown Denver.
And here's a preview of Denver's Hilltop neighborhood where I'm headed next.

That house on hilltop, the white one, used to sit by itself. Now its surrounded pretty much. The story about it is it was built to look like the monastery from the movie "Lost Horrizons". It is called Shangra-la. In the 50's the owner and his wife divorced...she got one side, he got the other. When Lowry AFB was still open to flights, jets and transports would fly right over it. One transport crashed about a mile east and 17 soldiers died. (I know all this cause I lived 3 blocks away from this mansion, west of Colorado Blvd, when I was young.
Fantastic homes and just 3 miles away from downtown. I walk through here about every other week and drive by them daily to get to the gym. It is amazing how family oriented the whole neighborhood has remained and retained it's historic feel. Hill Top has been so transformed into modern McMansions that it is hard to recognize it from what it use to be. Still some gems in there, but so many of the new structures are just ugly. Sad to see that happen there. Great tour and thank you for the post!
