HOUSTON | Williams Tower | 901 FT / 275 M | 64 FLOORS | 1983
The Williams Tower (formerly the Transco Tower), is a skyscraper located in the Uptown District of Houston. It was designed by architects Philip Johnson and John Burgee, in association with Houston-based Morris-Aubry Architects, and erected in 1983. The tower is among Houston's most visible buildings and can be seen from as far away as Katy, Texas, a city located approximately 30 miles (48 km) west of Houston. The building is the 4th-tallest in Texas and the 23rd-tallest in the United States. When it was built, in 1983, it stood as the tallest skyscraper located outside a city's central business district.
The light on top rotates, I take it. A second I saw that, Montreal's Place Ville-Marie came to mind. Cruciform tower with beacon on top. Always liked that!
If they put one of those on the Empire State Bldg., that'd be WAY cool!
My favorite building in Houston. I could never not stare at it when I lived there. I especially love the view of the building at night when you're heading northbound on I-610 and you crest the top of the interstate where it crosses over 59. Uptown is all lit up before you and the Williams Tower just stands out beautifully!!!

I don't care how many times I've been to Houston or seen the skyline. How many buildings I've seen or been close to, Williams Tower is flat out wins every time.

I've never really paid any attention to this building before this thread, but now I gotta say that I like it -- a lot. It's one of the few all glass towers (base notwithstanding) that reads like a finely massed art deco skyscraper without trying to directly copy any of them. Actually, I'm trying to think of another in its class, and I can't.

Love this building. The vertical lines of darker glass add to its verticality, and thus, its awesomness.
The glass all over the entire building is actually the same color, its just the angled portion of the glass that runs vertically you're seeing that doesn't reflect much light in these photos.
