Downtown Phoenix: 2005 vs 2008

1800x1200 original picture here: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2202/...a2d882cd_o.jpg

Pretty amazing for 3 short years, no? Look especially at the northern end of downtown (right side of picture)...the Sheraton hotel, the Cronkite School, the ASU dorms. Then you have the Summit condo tower next to the ballpark and 44 Monroe, plus you can see the Cityscape construction site and even the elevator tower of One Central Park East already.

Can't wait to see what downtown will look like in just another 3 more years.

First picture found on Flickr (taken by cogdogblog), second on Google.

I think some more cropping would help, get them closer together. The fact that the angle is so similar makes it a bit harder to spot the differences, I think. The angle doesn't accentuate or make any of the new buildings really pop out at you.

Ahhhh, yes, refreshment.

It is a pretty good perspective. The ASU dorms seem to be nearly completely blocked by the Sheraton tower.

Don't forget about the Portland Place condos, either.

The original, un-cropped version is best to look at: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2202/...a2d882cd_o.jpg

You can even make out Alta Phoenix, and as you said, the very edge of the ASU dorms, but even they help to add to the density.
Take a look at the tower crane and elevator core of 1CPE, that is really going to fit in nicely there. Same with Cityscape, having two (for now) tower rising there is going to really help make everything more dense.

I'm saying crop out the top of the pic where you can see where Grand Ave. goes. Changes there don't show up in the skyline. I have to scroll to see both pictures, seeing them at the same time would make it easier. It's probably my lowish monitor resolution...

You mean not everyone is running at 1920x1200 resolution?

See if it looks better now, I cropped both pictures in the original post.

Much better.

they look pretty much the same minus two "high rises" and a convention center.

No one mentioned the change in the convention center, until John.

Its kinda hard to determine its impact from that angle. However, if you're looking at Phoenix from the east, you can see the impact it makes on the skyline. Its not a highrise, but its pretty freaking huge.
