Burlington McMaster Business School

Yep, you heard it correctly, McMaster has pulled the plug on the idea for a Burlington campus.

So start pressuring for this campus to come downtown Hamilton!

actually, I hate to burst your bubble, but they've only cancelled the plans for locating it in downtown Burlington.
Read here...it get's worse:

http://dailynews.mcmaster.ca/story.cfm?id=5016

I heard an interview on CHML today...they said they want (and I quote) a "greenfield piece of land with good highway access".

Only McMaster...... a bunch of morons running that school.

So they're pulling out of Downtown Burlington to add it along the QEW (or worse 407) somewhere??
Rediculusness!!
I bet it'll end up somewhere along the 403 bet Burlington & Hamilton... there's tons of greenspace around there!

Here's my response from MEC:

"Hi David:

My name is Gary Faryon and I am the VP of Operations at MEC. I would like
to discuss with you, your concerns regarding our new Burlington store location. As you probably know we purchased property on Brant and are currently in the process of building a green building that will open in the fall of 2008.

Gary"

McMaster Confirms Preferred Site For Burlington Campus

Feb, 14 2008 - 3:20 PM

BURLINGTON (AM900 CHML) - Some work still needs to be done to make it a reality, but McMaster University now confirms that it has selected a preferred location for its Burlington campus.

The nine-acre site is located along the South Service Road near Appleby Line. The university hopes to make it the home of the Degroote School of Business MBA program.

Among other things, the plan must still be approved by McMaster's Board of Governors.   The university must also still reach a deal to purchase the site from the current landowner.

Mac is really bugging me lately.
First they get rid of their Downtown Burlington Campus plans, then eliminate all buses from their Westdale Campus, THEN decide to put their Burlington Campus in a virtually inaccessible (by foot or transit) area? What is going on with them?

I had to take BT (Burlington Transit) yesterday, and it is by far the WORST service I have experienced in any city I have ever taken public transit in (incl. Mississauga & St Catharines).

Ridiculous.

Beating a dead horse I know, but I can't get over the short sightedness of MAC here.
They could've work with the city to restore a suitable property in the downtown core.

I feel you there. I took BT every day to work last year when I was working at UPS (Mainway and Walkers Line). I was commuting from my home in East Hamilton all the way there. It was a 4 hours of commuting each day. BT is very rough because if you miss a bus, you will be standing around until your hair changes to grey. I ended up quitting the job because I was tired out in the morning by the time I got to work, and I was pretty much dead by the time I got home at night. The other people there couldn't believe how far I was coming in from (without driving). Looking back: yah it was pretty nuts.

Yeah man, I work here and believe me only the poorest of the poor take the bus from Hamilton. A few guys here have came and went and it's like you said, 2 hours on the bus. GO + bike is the way to go.

I share this feeling. Especially after reading the moronic comment by someone at Mac saying "I can't wait until there is a big McMaster sign on the QEW" woopie, does she think people schleping back and forth everday along from Hamilton, Brantford, St. Catharines and Burlington to Toronto give a shit that a Mac sign is on one of the buildings on the service road?

The reason why Mac is going into to burlington is because they offered to basically pay for most of the building. If our council had money we could do the same thing.

sadly, it's the only way Mac does anything. Downtown courthouse is leased to them for like a buck. City and upper government levels are paying a ton of money for MIP. They're supposed to generate wealth, instead it seems like they spend most of their time stealing it. MIP gives them a chance to finally fix this...I'm hoping it works.

I am not a fan of the proposed site either.

I made a post a couple of days ago defending McMaster's parking rates in response to a comment made by raisethehammer. I am not sure if my post and RTH's post were in this thread or a different one, but either way, they both appear to be gone. This is not the first time that posts of mine appear to have disappeared. Are the moderators deleting posts? The comments were quite innocent.

no, your parking comment is in the 'retail news' thread.
If you're ever looking for any of your own (or anyone else's) posted comments, just click on the little green circle next to their name and it will give you the option to find all comments made by that person.

I could care less if it's the most expensive parking in the city, but the City didn't have to make it illegal to park on the street anywhere within a square kilmeter of campus. FORCING everyone to pay the ridiculous rates at Mac.
