New York City Olympic Aquatic Centre

Here was a design I summited for a competition over the summer on SSC. I just quoted the post. Tell me what you all think!

Quote:
With broad shoulders, easy access to great swimming venues, and even an award worthy university aquatics program down the street, one might think I would have taken the watered path in life. Rather than swimming in world class facilities, I, Goothrey, have designed a world class aquatics center. New York City needed a solution, and my design company and I have stepped up and answered their call. I present to you the 2024 New York City Olympic Aquatic Centre. With the design, I came into this project focusing on the marine aspect as the facilities are located by water, in water, and around water. It was only natural for a design that complements its surroundings. This project provided a unique opportunity in that it opened the door for an easy implementation of natural light throughout the structure. Keeping the environment in mind, the design conveniently allow fresh air to easily circulate through out the structure with little energy requirements. Being that the world will be looking upon this structure, the design needed to be unique, as well as modern. The goal is that if a person quickly catches this structure in the corner of their eye, they will look again with curiosity and eagerness to enrich their mind about the structure.

The Structure:

Legacy Phase

After the Olympic games, the structure will become competition and recreational complex that will suit the needs of New York City, New York state, and even rare instances with the rest of the nation. There will be a swim shop in the east entrance of the structure. On the west side entrance there will be a small museum covering the 2024 Olympic games, focusing on the aquatic games. There will be a swim program taking ages from 5 to 17 that practice in this complex.

The Water Polo pool will be removed and in its place will be two diving pools. The pools with have varying diving heights which could be used for training, or reaction. A jacoozy/warm water bath will accompany the pools.

The training pool with be removed along with its seating and will be replaced with two full sized 50x25 pools. One pool could be used for training, while at the same time, the general public could use the other. Public showers are connected to this area. The wall between the main competition area and the training area has been removed.

For the main competition area, the second level of seats was removed, reducing the capacity to 5416. Capacity can increase with temporary seating according to demand. This made room for a public shower with access from the training area.

This is really nice. How long did it take? Somebody could easily mistake this as a model of an existing structure.

Thanks for the comments.

-It took a couple of weeks working off and on.
-For those familiar with New York, the location is on Pier 76 right by the Javits Convention Center.
-I drew a wavy design(the outline of the building) and used the push/pull tool and the follow me tool to create the 3d shape out of that 2d drawing and then I went in an put detail such as glass. Exterior was designed around the interior rather than the interior fitting in the exterior(made it a whole lot easier).

One of the best designs I've seen on here.

But why why why have you decided to put the openings on the front sides instead of the front?
