Vancouver | Beautiful, Multicultural | Canada's Pacific Metropolis

Source: My Photo

I took this earlier in the week and it captures the peculiar low white autumnal light we get this time of year. For the uninitiated, Vancouver is located on Canada's West Coast in a temperate coastal rainforest climate. Because of this it is lush and green throughout the year and it rains or is overcast for a large portion of the winter months. As we move into this "rainy season" part of the year the light changes dramatically. It is often overcast or raining for much of the day but there are small windows of time around dusk when the sun falls below the level of the clouds and strikes the city horizontally with an intensely white light. I've tried to photograph this before without success but I feel I got it this time.

Vancouver 2010 Olympic Village construction photos | October 22nd, 2007

I took these in the midst of a breathtaking, sudden fall sunset today and the light faded moments after I snapped the last photo. In order to start taking photos before I lost the light I ran from the bus stop, past the sales centre for the Olympic Village where I saw people camping out in line in order to buy the condos and townhouses and they don’t even go on sale for five more days.

A beautiful shot of a beautiful city. It's been too long since I've been up there.

I love Vancouver, less for its lookalike condo towers than for the oversized grandeur of its natural beauty. Thanks for the pic.

6 year bump... That's gotta be some kinda record.

And here I was all excited, thinking this was a new Vancouver thread. It's been months, does anyone in Vancouver even own a camera anymore??

Edit* Just did a search out of curiosity, outside of the construction updates the last Vancouver thread was Oct 10th... what's going on out there?!?

I feel like I'm the only person in the world who loves Vancouver's architecture. It's not perfect, I do wish there was more variety, but at least the style that's being copycatted is visually appealing. To me it's like a larger-than-life mosaic of glass set against some of the most gorgeous natural backdrops on Earth. Factor in Stanley Park, the bridges, the SkyTrain, BC Place, Granville Island, etc. and you have a city that's a solid contender for most beautiful in the world.

Vancouver is like a psychedelic wonder drug... but I think the forum OD'ed on Vancouver a while ago.

Or how about this.. Vancouver is like city porn.... too many people were getting caught whacking off to it, so now it's just a bit taboo...
