The City by the Bay: Mobile, AL

Haven't posted in a long time. Left the snow in MI last week and headed back home to sunny Mobile for a friends wedding. Hope you enjoy!

Looks nice. The best picture is the one of the red building with the tree and lamppost.

That tall building is nice, but it really sticks out.

Southern hospitality? Geez!

That new skyscraper is quite a looker, but it looks out of place in the sparse skyline.

Those pictures with the water, how far away from Downtown are you? That's kind on mind blowing how it looks like the city is sitting on the water. To be honest I didn't even know Mobile was near any body of water.

Real nice. Like the ~French style stuff. The new tower is great. Can't wait to see more midrises going up to support it.

14 miles by bird, 19 miles by car. Their is plans for ferry service from downtown to the picture location and to gulf shores/orange beach, that will be great for the area.

It's not that bad! Plus, there are some decent proposed projects that will fill in some of the gaps.

Awesome photos !
I especially enjoyed seeing the vantage point from Daphne. My rental condo there is about a mile south of I-10, and there's one building between it and that view of the bay.

Does that new building hold the record for tallest building in the smallest city?

Probably the best Mobile pictures I've seen. Thats such a sleek new tower and I love the way it fits in with the skyline (or doesn't..) What is the newer-looking building to the left of the first pano?

As far as I know, yes. The closest parallel I can find is Jersey City :

The round, gold thing on the far left of the first photo is the Mobile Civic Center.

Wonderful streetscapes, especially in the French Quarter-like areas. But the skyline shots seem off-balance because that hulking new skyscraper looks completely out of place.
