New Transit Network in Hamilton

http://www.lightrailnow.org/features/f_lrt_2007-02a.htm

I was looking at this document and I came up with an idea for a New Transit Network for Hamilton.

10 Beeline becomes LRT with an extension west to the Go Transit McMaster University Terminal

27 Upper James becomes BRT and extension to Airport

Route 9 Rock Gardens becomes Route 8S Rock Gardens

Route 16 Ancaster becomes Route 56 Ancaster

Route 56 Centennial becomes Route 59 Centennial and is Extended to Valley Park Loop (Eventually Heritage Green Shopping Centre)

Route 11 is cut back to Greenhill due to Mount Albion Road closure

New Route 9 Wentworth

Route 12 James North (Streetcar)

Route 2 Barton converted to Streetcar opperation

Route 13 West Harbourfront (Streetcar) to CN lands development

Route 42 Linc XPress

Route 44 Rymal

Details to follow on Each Route in Post.

About 17 Km (Estimated)

At 45 Km/h average including stops

Estimate Travel Time about 23 Minutes

Using Modern Streetcars:

• Size and appearance: Length 20.1 m (66 ft), width 2.46 m (8 ft 1 in), double-articulated body with modern styling
• Capacity: 29 seats with up to 127 standees (6/m2)

2.2 Million US Per Car

For Every 5 Minute Peak Service Assuming no more than 3/4 of Cars in Service at Once and a 3.5 Minute Layover at each end to Account for Delays
/ Pee Breaks

This means 16 Cars
for $35.2 Million Dollars US

$15.1 Million per KM = 256.7 Million Dollars US

for a total of $291.9 US

$335.1 Canadian

thats about $106 Million Dollars per Level of Government

27 Upper James/Airport

First thing is first, something has to be done about James/John.

1) Transit Priority Signals

2) 33,35,21 and new 27 use James and the rest use John. Transfer Way built along St.Joesephs Drive

or

3) 33.35.21 and new 27 Downbound on John Southbound on James

The rest Opposite

And a Transfer Place on St.Joesephs Drive

The Transfers are for people on the North Mountain where it is often faster to switch buses at St.Joes than to take the cross mountain buses.

I will post about the actual 27 route later tonight
