Arrow Wausau, WI-Some shots from the fall.

I spent some time in Wausau, Wisconsin in the fall. It is a nice town of about 40,000 people located about 5 hours from Chicago, and about 3 hours directly east of Minneapolis. There are numerous paper mills, and though it is pretty small, it has the most successful downtown in the state.

Enjoy...

An empty downtown street.

This street is supposed to be like an outside mall, and during my stay it was usually pretty crowded down here.

The building in the middle is a theatre, BB King was playing there during my stay, and as much as I wanted to, I didnt get to see him.

An abandoned cinema.

This is the building that just went up.

Some nice old houses.

Can't really see the whole thing.

An old train station.

Papermills in the distance.

Nice! I love seeing photos of new towns. It looks very well preserved and green. I'm curious though, when you say it has "the most successful downtown in Wisconsin" what exactly do you mean? I only say that because I didn't see a single pedestrian in any of those photos.

I'm ready to say that Madison, Milwaukee, and Sturgeon Bay all have far more sucessful downtowns, but nonetheless this is a great thread. It was pretty desolate when I was there.

I think it brings in more money per capita, because there is only 40,000 people. The mall located downtown has a lot to do with it i think

One of my best buddies from the Navy was from Wausau. Great to see pics of the place. Looks nice, and in good shape. Thanks.

The only thing I know about Wausau is that it's got some very nice island parks, and there's a ghost story attached to one that scared the bejeesus out of me when I found out about it -- and that takes a lot.

Looks like quite a lovely town to harbor such an unspeakable evil...

(Not being facetious, either -- It looks like a delightful place, although that town square could use some perking up. Around here you can't have any empty public land sitting around without a gardening club wanting to get their hands into it.)

The train station is famous. At least in advertising circles and for those who remember the station in the Wausau Insurance ads. I think they still use the image in television ads.

Doesn't look too bad. I don't like the blue glass though, makes it look kinda fake.

Downtown looks nice, even if it is empty.

Very cool. I like the central park and old homes. Also, it has great sidewalks.

Can't say much for downtown, but the skiing is surprisingly decent. The photos don't show it but they're mountains (midwest standards) in that there town.

There is a mountain, but it's more like a big ridge.
